I always used to have cable wherever I lived, then I had to have DirecTV where I'm living now and the difference is staggering! My Mom has a land line and doesn't even have the sport channels for TV yet she pays almost the same as the owner of this place does. Except we have almost 800 channels available, high-definition to five rooms and the ability to record at least 300 hours (five channels at a time) with the added extra of streaming through the WiFi to any connected device! What made me laugh is that we have far fewer problems with the picture (losing it, pixelation, etc.) with the dish than I ever did with cable. Of course, a bit of a bummer for me is that my phone plan costs more per month than the entire DirecTV bill...
Maybe I need to look around at other phone plans. I've had VeriZon Wireless ever since I started consulting to them back in '95 (originally through Anderson Consulting, who is now Accenture, then direct). I was there for over 7 years and still remember the expression on a VP's face when he saw I was using Cingular. I told him I simply was waiting for my contract to end before switching and he said he'd get me a one-time discount so from then on I've stayed with them.
