So... full price software here reduced price software there. Seems to me like they belong in the same place. New software & Old software. When does it become a deal? Not sure the differentiation makes any real sense with its current labelling. I can see this not working very well, people will just end up posting in either one for either reason. I like the rest of the changes though.

If it's such an issue they could easily re-lable 'Deals' to  'Deals+ New products/ announcements'

I, personally, think it's a ridiculous waste.

The deals and info together are what spur "buying and selling" and positive influence.
We seem to fail to realize that WE don't have to read something.  If we choose to
that's fine.  We also don't HAVE to respond to something, but, if we choose to, that
also is fine.  We also FAIL to realize we can also agree to disagree.

What this says is "you are incapable of policing yourselves, and a select few of us don't like
what you say and how you say it, so we are going to "police" YOU for YOU!!!

But, as always, that's just my opinion.  I SERIOUSLY do NOT believe the majority were in favor of
this.  But, hey, you got what YOU asked for...

Thanks Bit.  Did not notice this change.  Just means two places to check for info about software now.

I agree with everything Mike McCue said. Especially about the banning. The hosts seem to want to use different descriptions for the word "ban." I read the COC and the TOS and yep, the host's can ban members. Plain and simple. Whether it's a day, a month.... it's still a ban.

But that is not why I'm posting on this thread. ;-)

I would like to suggest that segregating the forum into discrete subjects makes it less likely that ideas will cross pollinate in a positive and useful way.

That is how you end up with Magicians that do not know that SONAR imports OMF and forum hosts that do not know what a sample buffer is. When discussions get pigeon holed into categories it becomes less likely that people will encounter ideas that they never even knew they might have an interest in.

Classical forums were places where people had varied discussions and encountered other people having discussions. They were not reference libraries.

This is what I have been trying to say from day one. Mike put it so well.

Hosts, don't be so quick to "regulate." Let it happen. We will all benefit from the spontaneity.

Grem,

Also agree that Mike put it where it needed to be put. About the only analysis that makes any risk/benefit sense to me currently.

Couple nights, and I haven't woken up in cold sweats, loss of bowel and bladder control over the fear that Bit will avange CW by deleteing my every other post. That's not an issue and love Bit as my brother. Karyn is now a new public figure trying to merge in as just one of the guys. Psychological prep was orchestrated and set up long before this roll out to get the "hosts" accepted as generic, under the radar forumites with "cleanup" authority. Cool... Roll on... May be needed in extreme cases and almost trust their judgement.

Mike's point in that ideas and revelations will less "cross polinate" by segregating everything over multuiple politically correct outposts is real. Like Mike said, we are not reference libraries. A lot of the former magic of this forum was in the collision of less restrained call response interactions that led to evaluating a utility and need for a plugin that was not realized before.

Looking strictly at the numbers, there are only a couple or so that are not in bliss over the new restrictions, limitations. And there are valid opinions maybe way more accurate than my reactive diatribe, primitive understanding of what is going on.

Wonder if this is because there are others who are not as ecstatic but haven't voiced objection.

In case the numbers are real, have learned over time that if there are one of me to 10 of another opinion, it's likely I've screwed up somewhere in my understanding. Will try to keep an open mind otherwise.

No.  Let me try again to explain how we intend this to work.

----------
IK announce a new iApp that does something marvellous.  Larry spots it and posts in the Software forum.
We all marvel at how wonderful it is and have a great discussion about how it will change the world, etc...

6 months later, Joe's Studio Supplies announce they're selling iApp at a 50% discount for one week only.  Larry sees it and posts it in the Deals forum.  It is, after all, a great deal...
-----------

We get lots of software info discussion (in one place) without trailing through dozens of deal posts, and the great deals are all in one place.
Why is that so wrong?

Makes total sense to me. Software discussion in one- good eq to use for this or that etc, review of certain compressor, latency of brick wall limiters, algorithm vs convo reverb, good place to get convo IRS etc.

And in the other: cc's software discount thread with numerous threatening references to ikmultimedia.

No one said it was wrong. I just said it was confusing! : )

So are the moderators gonna allow things to flow naturally? Or for every little infraction they will take swift action? (Yes I am being dramatic)

IOW, as this discussion develops about this new compressor that a lot of people feel will change the world, someone comes in and states what they feel is obvious and that such and such already has a plug that does the exact same thing for one-fourth the price and leaves a link. It's an old product, on sale at Joe's Studio Supplies, will that be moved? Or allowed?

Why should we now worry about this?

edit spelling : )

Don't over-think it, guys. The forum changes resulted from user suggestions. From us.

Don't remember anyone asking us how we would like these changes.

Not over thinking it. Just asking questions.

The Maillard Reaction
I may be crazy, but I imagine myself in the silent majority.

I am one of the guys who knows how to not read what I do not want to read.

It seems like a vocal minority got bent out of shape and voiced complaints that they were distracted by paying attention to stuff they didn't want to pay attention to.
