OMG

why would anyone want to use that sound ever again?

Because it sounds really cool.

When I was a teenager in the 80's I didn't know anything about music production but I HATED that snare sound. It was like all I could hear in the track was that horrible big thwack on beats 2 and 4. Now, I quite like 80's snares. I particularly like the snare sound in Bryan Ferry's "Don't Stop The Dance."

It sort of helps you when you own a Sonor 6" chrome sanre. (I do, it basically blows most snares out of the water)  Basically that drum makes the 80's snare sound all on its own! I agree with Bit it is not bad and a lot better than some of the crappy snare sounds we are hearing now.

Things are all a bit drier now though so we have to take into consideration I suppose. You just have to watch the reverbs I guess. We don't want to be stuck in the 80's now do we!  What would be worse is not progressing musically from that period.  So let's make the music more modern but keep the snare sound!
