When you open all the windows it seems like an enhanced version of Kontakt to me with a few extra keyboard features at the top (root note, scale type, key mode, chord mode) shown by press the button with notes on it. I guess I haven't touched the surface or is that it?
 
Also it seems a good way to have patches that are read only so they can't be edited.

Komplete Kontrol is now is the must powerful synth under the sun! OK, maybe not really a synth. But it has a 12000 plus presets under an interface. I am discovering new sounds and even Reaktor synths that I didn't know I owned. It is like getting a new synth to play with. Have fun!

how is it dealing with third party presets?

It is only for komplete 9 and 10 native instruments vsts only.

It's pretty kewl...you can pick the instrument type then pick the preset you want...

Far easier then going through all your plugins to find the sound you're looking for...
