Oh, man.  This morning I got the e-mail from NI about this Komplete browser.  I thought, "Wow, that's pretty neat!  A free tool that shouldn't take long to install and try out ... how hard could that be?"

I should have remembered my experience with installing that free Waves StudioRack.  Long story short, after a full day of downloading, installing, updating, rinse, repeat (over and over and over again), I now have this thing running.

Was it worth the hassle?  Um, no.

I guess it's a nice tool to have, but somehow my installation went horribly wrong and only now am I back to normal.  I think.

Proceed with caution -- make sure you have PLENTY of disk space if you need to update your NI instruments like Reaktor or Absynth.  And also make sure you have backups of your NI dll files ... somehow the installer managed to delete all those for me.  These latest NI installers leave much to be desired, I'd say.  Not exactly foolproof.  Anyway, good luck!

Cheers,
Eddie

+1   I've only had a few minutes to play with it so far, but it seems like a very nice tool for Komplete 9 users.   And conveniently (at least for me) it's right by Kontakt in the list of VSTi's.   Now, how to remove a plugin from the right-side pane...

There must be something wrong with your system Eddie...
It installed in less then a minute, authorized, and works perfectly for me.
It didn't change anything or do anything (that I can see) it just added
the Kontrol, both VST and Standalone...and both work fine (so far)
and it didn't do anything to my intalled locations, which are all on my
external drive...

Maybe I'm missing something, or it might be a conflict with something else
running on your machine that is causing that, because, from what I've
read, everyone seems to be installing it just fine...

I'm running Win 8.1...and StudioRack installed perfectly fine for me also...
I recall a minor glitch, but that was resolved by Waves very quickly...

NI installers mount disk images which is a design mistake on my view. Plenty of virus scanners do not like this! Disable your antivirus. Also take care with the install file path. I always make sure 32 bit plugins are installed outside the Sonar VST path for instance as I dont get the option to not install them (another feature they forgot about). Ta

No install problems with the MS security app. It located all the files needed on multiple drives. Nice browser but I'm sure you won't get the best of it without the new keyboard. There are some options for setting the apps for the NI control surface. Too bad they are too expensive for me.

I seem to have bad luck with these freebie installs ... maybe I should be a beta tester.

In fairness, the KK browser itself doesn't seem to have been the cause of my trouble.  But the required updates to the instruments to get them to work with the browser -- THAT was a different story.  In my case, they screwed up royally.  Major weaknesses in error checking and recovery, I'd say.  But all's well now, and yes, it is a cool thing to be able to search through all your Komplete instruments from one place.

Cheers,
Eddie

I assume you will only see Kontakt libraries if they are regestered. (ie need service centre), is that the case, or do all NKI's show up?

Komplete Kontrol seems pretty nifty. To be able to browse all the presets from one place is great. If it only had a dedicated hardware controller and the ability to create your own multi's with a whole bunch of internal FX and the ability to use other VSTi's and maybe 8 knobs to morph your sounds that would really be great!  And if it had......hey, wait a minute.
