Having a special IK/SampleTank sort of moment again as I'm importing the Miroslav Library into my newly bought ST3... Instead of simply linking the old library, ST3 copies every frickin' sample back on my main drive and rebuild the library there. And it takes its sweet frickin' time...

An hour wasted (so far) and hoping that I have an option to re-move that library. When I have such an option - currently it's still "Building Instruments Database".

I do not want samples on my main HD - unfortunately, I was not presented with an option to prevent that. Real pro, dude... Every one in the business keep their libraries on their OS HD....

Dumbest, most inefficient install/upgrade I've ever seen. And I thought NI sucked. - Man...

And that's only a start - I still have SampleMoog, SampleTron and the rest of them... I guess that's why people pay good money for Kontakt...

Did I mention IK never got back to me to fix my profile in regards change my country... Not a happy customer here.

Great products though (I love that Opto comp!)

EDIT

Oops - and we're done... Setting the default path to my external drive doesn't seem to work.

Re-oops - ST doesn't remember its own default path, so I can't simply reset it -  at this moment , in spite of over 2 hours wasted, my ST library is empty. I'll have to hunt that one down again before I can use it.

Man... NI really isn't that bad...

Rain, you're assuming the copied files are identical to the originals, and that they'll stay identical. It's entirely possible that new information is being added to the files as they're imported into ST3, or that ST3 has the ability to write new information into them that ST2 wouldn't like. Or have that ability in the future.

That's one theory. The other is that they simply don't want the support calls when users uninstall ST2 and then discover ST3 doesn't play their old libraries anymore.

Sorry to hear about your woes with ST3 Rain.....I didn't upgrade, but still have all 50+ GB of library content sitting on my HD.
Speaking of which, I've never put my my library content on my OS drive as I'd just simply run out of room instantly. I have 3TB HD drive for all my samples/sounds and keep my SSD (OS Drive) for all software only.

Rereading your post, I'm thinking you may have meant to say that as you stated you do not want samples on your main HD, but it also says the opposite right after that.....typo?

From the looks of it, IK should have taken a little more time to work out the details before (prematurely) releasing it?

Hmmmm . I had no problems installing samples where I wanted them, even the imported libraries. I wonder if there is a difference on OS.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with importing legacy instruments.  SampleTank 3 should remember the chosen paths, sounds like you are experiencing a unique issue so please do report it to our support team at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support and they will happily assist you.  Also, make sure you have the latest version installed (always available in your IK User Area at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/userarea ) in case there were any fixes related to the issue you are having if you have not done so already.  Thank you.

I had similar questions about that. I tried moving my samples and ended up putting hem back because the options didn't jive or I wasn't doing something right. I hope you get it sorted and please let us know how it ends up.

I did manage to have the samples re-imported where I wanted them - almost seems as if ST did not register my folder preferences until I re-launched it.

That doesn't mean end of troubles though - every time you add a sample library to ST, like SampleMoog or Sampletank or the Sonic Reality Expansion Tanks, it rebuilds the Instrument Library Database.

E-VE-RY-TIME!

Importing the actual samples and converting them can be a bit long, but I guess it's forgivable.

But currently, it's been over 90 minutes since it's started updating the database after I last added a library (Vintage Key Collection). The library itself is 1.03 GB - and that 1.03 GB is long since converted. But the "database" update is still going and bogarting my computer...

90 minutes to re-index a library which was 99% indexed already, and has been re-indexed a dozen time.

I'd decided to give the process an hour, which I thought would be enough and I was hoping to be able to start working at 7pm after hours wasted. It is currently 7:35 and it shows no sign of progress.

If you plan on adding samples to ST, or if you own a couple of extra libraries, plan on importing those at night or during your downtimes.

EDIT - Another fun thing: there's a loop that's missing in Sonik Synth which aborts the import. Unfortunately, it's one of the very last things to be scanned so if you're like me, you'll waste an hour trying to import Sonik Synth. The fix - get rid of that "instrument" and start the whole process over. (Yes, this mean, re-go through the database refresh...)

I wish I'd found this thread before. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8455

Oh, and it looks like I'm almost done - if ST can finally get done with that last preset which it has now been stock onto importing/adding to the database for 5 minutes.

Next time, I re-sample everything manually in Logic's sampler - it'll take me only half the time.

I feel bad you are having so much trouble. Mine was slow but not nearly as slow as yours. All of mybimports, including miroslav took less than an hour total. Have not triedb on mac yet

More fun... After being stuck on that very last instrument for so long, I got an application not responding message.

Quit and restart SampleTank - what do you think happen? Building Database... Quite impressive for a piece of software which took forever to be released and was postponed innumerable times.

So it's now 8:05 pm, and still waiting time because of IK - I now feel as if once I'm done upgrading SampleTank will be the last thing I ever want to see again.

I wish IK sold hardware, in a store somewhere near. I'd show them how EXS-24 can re-index 40 GB worth of instruments in 2 seconds and probably wouldn't leave the darn store until they gave me a copy of ARC to make up for wasting my time like this...

Thanks for even reading my ramblings, pal. I guess I had to vent - I just get so frustrated when something messes up with my studio time. I'm sure you know the feeling, though you probably handle it much more rationally than I. :)
