It's not often you get a chance to do this, but at our bike rally back in July (I showed you the pics) the band on Friday and the band on Saturday both played the same song during their set and as I recorded them both..  here they are.

I mixed them separately, a few weeks apart, and as part of the whole set each time, so there was no effort to make them sound either the same or different. They just came out as they did.  I've just cut these tracks as a comparison.

Friday
Saturday

Any critique is welcome, either me or the bands, I don't care...

Edit : Yes, I know about the feedback on Saturday...   we came to the conclusion it was the rhythm guitar in the monitor.

Friday -  Vox sound great! So do the guitars. I think the bass needs more definition and volume. The drums could come up in the mix also IMHO
Saturday - Mix is better but vox be too much out front.
The Band ROCKS!
Remember I'm deaf  but on my system I would do as above.

If only we had some forum hosts to keep things tidy for us and make sure that threads are posted in the most appropriate forum

The feedback just adds to the atmosphere and reminds you it's live. The bass sounds pretty good, and it sounds like it's miked rather than direct. If so, then good job!

I like Friday's mix better, not because of the feedback issue but mainly because the guitar's in better tune in that mix. And the singer sounded a little tired on the second day. The kick's a little snappier in the Friday mix, too. But I'm sure the band's happy with the results, or at least they should be.

I should make it clearer that these are two different bands, playing on different days at the same event, so some things should sound different...

One is a general covers band, the other is an AC/DC tribute act.  I'll let you guys decide which is which.

@Dave,  The bass in both cases was DI (with an amp on stage), but when mixing the recording I put it through the bass amp in Guitar Rig as the very first effect. From that point on I treat it as if it were a real miked amp.
It's a good job I DI'd it to be honest, as the bass player on Saturday managed to blow his amp.  I just added him to the monitors and they carried on.

Good job Karyn with a Y (ITYRN). I like the AC/DC vibe on Saturday. Good ole rock music, not a spec of cereal. I need to get over the pond and explore my roots.
