Thank you for your message, John.

I have to say that I respectfully disagree with you regarding pointlessness, but I'm glad you posted it because I've learned about some of the positive things that the members here have accomplished.  I had my suspicions and I've seen some of it in action.  I wasn't aware of all the details.

Humor is never pointless.  Some--OK many--of my inane attempts at humor may not be successful, but they might provoke a funnier response from someone else.  I may not be as consistently humorous as some of the other CH members, but I seem to get a good joke in once in a while.  Even if I'm the straight man, if I succeed in bringing some humor or fun here I've accomplished something.

I respect and appreciate your right right to voice your opinion whether I agree with it or not.

Thanks again,
Jan

John,
It's good to be able to say what you feel you need to or want to no matter how serious or humorous that might be (or might not be!).  I don't think you were joking but if you were, it would make your statement a lot easier to understand.

Something.

I just wanted to chime in and say something.

Thanks,

Of this forum.

I wonder in all the time this forum has been opened anyone has thought about the money and effort put in to it to make this forum possible?

I wonder if it were not free if the inane postings would be so numerous?

I wonder if the idiotic banter that is only humorous to a few would be tolerated if those doing it had to pay for every silly post.

I don't come here much because it is rather depressing to be here any length of time for all the nonsense that permeates most every thread. Ones that might be interesting become a home of buffoonery for no purpose. All this will be on the net in perpetuity.  How sad.

The opportunity to enlighten to have an interchange of ideas and to further our understanding is being stolen by a few that have absolutely nothing to say, none the less, say something anyway.

An occasional funny thread with real humor would be a good thing but the constant droning of inconsequential verbiage makes this place a vacuum.

There I said it. Something I have been thinking for a very long time.

I think your memory is failing you John, you usually do this about once a year. I'll take as much notice of it as I always do.

makes this place a vacuum.

Ja.

We need someone to vacuum this place.

Bubba had the job last week but said "Ain't my yob, man".

Mooch sez "WHO CARES!!??!!"

Jonbouy will get fees and taxes whether there is vacuuming or not. No time for him to vacuum, though.

Straummy will find a anagram for vacuum, but do it? No Whey!

The rest of the guys and gals here simply saunter to the Techniques forum at the mention of work.

Beagle only scoops up the Becan debris (as IF there is any, but he sniffs away anyway).

So in the end Beagle is the closest thing to vacuuming we have here, so I'm glad you've volunteered to do it for us. Sadly you have to join the club to understand what we mean down here by vacuuming. You up for it?

How is that flame proof underwear holding up John?

Let me state that you are not wrong. You are indeed quite right. Many threads are pointless, and I find it tedious to wean through them. A whole lot of what some find "funny", is not even remotely so.

But, is that not the point of a coffee house? Is it not better to have it here then to have this sort of thing happen in the more serious forums?

A few years ago, when the CH was shut down, that was indeed the problem. Some of us in the Song forum in particular begged, begged the Mods to restart the CH as the song forum was becoming the dumping ground for all the pointless nonsense.

But outside of the nonsense and horseplay, this is the forum with THE strongest sense of community and brotherhood I have ever participated in. As some pointed out, members here have done great things to help others in need. It is in a few words, a remarkable place in cyperspace.

Why not climb down off the soap box and actually try to relax, have some fun and participate. You will find many who enjoy serious discussions too, who are willing to engage you in whatever you want.

Try to think of it as a real coffee shop... you can participate in one or two conversations at a time, but try to participate in them all and you will go nuts (as witnessed by Bapu). Instead of scolding us across the fence, why not come around it, sit, relax, and have a coffee?

Cheers
Shad
