There is no explanation or context. All Steve has written here is 'timely bump' on a 2.5 year thread. He then decided to create a new thread to link to it which was a discussion about John. It's pretty clear what the motivations are.

Yes - because he implicitly referenced it in the other thread. Duh.

I already posted my feelings about bringing up an 18 month old thread, but if you're going to criticize the man, you should at least understand the context first. And you don't.

It would be all fine if we weren't talking as though a fellow forums member doesn't exist. That is all have to say.

I meant John.

And if he were to concede that his opinions regarding the Coffee House and its regulars have changed since he started this thread, I am happy to allow this matter to die forever.

For what it's worth, I only dragged this thread up so that those who were intimating that my concerns about some of the (potential) forum hosts - in this case John specifically - were misplaced or inaccurate, could actually see him displaying what I consider to be his true colours.

Let me politely make it clear to you - I didn't write the OP to this thread, John did. If there's a time limit beyond which it is forbidden to reply to any particular thread, I haven't heard about it. Furthermore, I'd argue that it is absolutely relevant to the changes in forum management about to take place. Like I say, if John now looks upon the CH in a more charitable light, I'd be more than happy to thank him, apologise for exhuming this thread, and move on.

This thread, as Drew mentioned, caused a lot of grief when it was posted. If John carries these feelings with him into an official role as Forum Host, then I honestly believe it's worthy of discussion.

To be honest Alex, on a purely personal level, this isn't really any of your business. John can take care of himself. We've had our moments over the years, but we get over them and move on.

If, however, your comments carry some 'official' motive or connotation, then I would have appreciated a PM or an email in the first instance.

I might add that it would be greatly appreciated, and certainly more helpful to all concerned, if, when rebuking me in future, you could state if you are doing so on a personal level, or in your official capacity as (potential) Forum Host.

Pretty low blow dredging up this two year old thread.

Tom, with all due respect, I think you may be falling into the trap of blaming the messenger here.

In a general sense, if you post your opinions in here, you should really feel obliged to stand by them. If your views change, at least have the decency to say so. At this, I consider myself an old hand - I've said many a daft thing in here, but if I've been inaccurate, or just out of order, I find it much the better option to apologise and hope I haven't done too much damage and can be forgiven.

As I've mentioned to Alex in the post above, I think John's attitude and feelings toward other forum members are absolutely relevant at this point in time.

Every Veteran's Day this Coffee House goes out of it's way to thank all veterans for serving their country.

AFAIK John is one of the few Vietnam vets on this forum.
This might be a good time to thank the man or at the very least let by-gones be by-gones.

Thanks John.

 Seriously Tom?

For a start, how dare you make assumptions as to how I should treat John, or any other veteran for that matter.

When, and how, I pay my respects to those who have served, fought and died for my freedom is absolutely none of your god-damned business.

Furthermore, when did serving ones country entitle anyone to a get-out-of-jail-free card not to be held to account for ones words and deeds?

Jaw just dropped...how on earth is that relevant to any discussion on, or about a forum for music software?

My comments really weren't solely directed at Steve, but to all of John's detractors on the original thread.

Seemed John was getting no love and that is why I mentioned his military service. Maybe give the man some slack for some of his comments.

Probably a dumb thing to say on my part but it was followed by a typical Steve over-reaction.

Steve, you're a good guy. Lighten Up!

Totally agree with you Steve.
