Hi all,

I'm noticing that when opening Sonar recently it's taking forever. Have recently updated to Windows 10 but just can't find anything causing the problem. Seems to be a big hang as the Sonar start screen appears, can see the images of the projects then the names take a good few seconds to load. Then get a second bigger hanging point when the project is actually opened.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any tips on curing?

Does it happen in projects with and without Sonar browser window open? Close the browser by unlocking and closing it from the x button then save and try this project if it is any quicker. There used to be issues with the browser taking some time to query system drives, thus slowing down project load times

Dunno if I'm just being stupid here but when I make changes to open elements of Sonar the configuration is not saved with  the project. I close browser and inspector and they still open again after saving and re-opening.

The initial lag is also before any project is even open.

Also, has anyone any experience is stopping Windows Defender from affecting Sonar besides completely disabling it? White list maybe?

Windows Defender seems to be transparent, in my experience, by excluding the following:

Program Files \ Cakewalk folder
Sonar executable
File types - .cwp, .cwt, .wav, aif, .flac, (or any other audio format)
Projects Folder (I actually exclude my project drive)
VST Scan path(s)

Some of these are redundant, but that's where I ended up.
No issue with Defender in a while now.

Good luck!

Okay, update.

Managed to get Sonar and all files associated with it out of the Windows Defender scans and that's not really helped at all. I can see that it's not using huge amounts of processor power or memory from the process manager but on the same note nothing is really.

Can anyone confirm that they also get multiple instances of the start screen displayed in the Task Manager when it is open?

Thanks in advance.

Does it happen with every project or just some projects ?
If you have an older VST or one that is having problems loading, this will surely create a delay in start up.
Give me a few and I will check task manager for multiple start screens but I don't think that's it.

Yeah I'd be interested to know what your load times are for a new project.

Are you opening projects within SONAR or by double clicking them on the desktop?
If so do you see the same delay when you open the project within SONAR?
You can also try disabling the start screen if your web connectivity is slowing things down.

Another for the takes ages to open camp here.... (Win 7 Plat 2016.12 if it matters)

Both the program itself and projects - doesn't seem to matter which one.

It was pretty snappy the first time I ever fired it up, but deteriorated very quickly afterwards and way slower than X3 was now.

Also still crashing a lot when freezing synths triggering a fault reporter frenzy which takes ages to clear.

Drives me nuts.

If it weren't for Tungsten theme I'd ditch it and go back to X3. Did once, but it's too ugly to even look at now.

I love the way it looks now, but it's a real PITA sometimes.

Have you tried disabling the start screen? If SONAR is opening without a file or template, there is no reason for the app itself to take excessive time to start unless some driver or control surface is blocking taking a long time to initialize.
