Announcing the September issue of SoundBytes Magazine, our ninth issue.         Read it here:
http://soundbytesmag.net/
In this issue we continue the exhaustive review of string libraries that we hope will become a definitive repository of comparative information on such things. Our expert on orchestral strings, Per Lichtman, hasn’t quite finished this epic undertaking, but he’s covered a lot of ground.
And speaking of epic, you’ll want to check out our review of Epica, a rich and huge library of splendid synth sounds for Kontakt. And while we’re talking about sample libraries, expert sample-meister Tracy Collins of Indiginus shares his knowledge of what goes on under the hood in quality sample libraries. Haven’t had enough about sample reproduction? Sample Tank 3 has finally arrived on the scene; you’ll find the review in the new issue. Then there’s the impressive choir library from Eduardo Tarilonte.
We also try to take control ourselves, reviewing a hardware controller from Novation. Can Launchpad Mini do anything else except launching clips? If in doubt, read the article.
Plus, there’s much more.         Bet you never heard of spectral ducking.         You’ll wonder how you’ve lived without it once you’ve read Dave Townsend’s review and tutorial of MSpectralDynamics.
And of course there’s more coverage of synths and sound libraries. Take your pick of Electra 2, Arturia Spark 2, Synth Modular by Karma FX or Purity from Luxonix and Z3TA+2.1 .
Looking for some very cool free plug-ins?         Tomislav Zlatic is back with some great suggestions. Or if you are an Ableton Live addicted person, there is a selection of new things for that DAW that our Alex found for you.
Last but by no means least, we’re very pleased to present an interview with sound designer extraordinaire, Nori Ubukata.
Enjoy!
P.S. If you know someone who would appreciate the content of this magazine, don’t be shy. Do please spread the word.

Have to say that Dave's article on SampleTank 3 is very balanced
and reasonable.  Well done Dave!

And that's coming from a pretty tough audience, DM.

I think the sampletank review pretty much falls in line with what most people who actually own it have been saying. A sonar user said almost the same thing in his video on Youtube about a month ago.

As everyone knows, (at least I would hope) I'm not against ST...or
IK Products in general, I own just about every one of them...

But the company...that's a whole different story...their business practices
towards the end user/customer leave a GREAT deal to be desired.  And
they know it!  And make no apologies for it!  They must think they are
Disney of Software!

( I say that because I went to a "how to keep the customer happy" Seminar
where a Disney Rep (VP) was the speaker.  She was asked "Aren't you
WAY over-priced?  Her response was "YES WE ARE...and we make NO APOLOGIES
FOR IT! - at least she was honest!)

I'm digging into Bit's dissertation on MSpectralDynamics.  I think this is the most in-depth plugin review I've ever read.  It'll take me a while to finish ... but wow, excellent work!

Cheers,
Eddie
