I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternative to Waves Vocal Rider.     WVR seems a bit expensive  ($300)

Thanks!

Try Autogain Pro from Hornet. http://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-autogain-pro/  under $30 and works great.

Clint, have you ever used it on bass guitar?

I use Bass Rider on my bass. It works pretty good. No complaints here.

Yeah, Bass is where I use it the most. I'm working on a song now that has a little double tracked guitar riff that I wanted a little closer to perfect (the guitars are panned left and right and the volume differences bothered me) and used Autogain pro on both. It fixed them right up!

They also have autogain that is about half the price, but it is limited in features. Hornet has a demo version to try.

AutoGain Pro was only $29.   A lot better than Vocal Rider for $300

It works great too! The internal reference level works good when you adjust the gain level. The external source is great when you want to use (for example) the drum bus to ride the level of the bass. Then it will write the automation for you...Great plugin! I have a lot of Hornets stuff.

Meldas Autovolume is also great and does most of the same things as Vocal rider. I have used it on Bass and Vocals.
You also get the ability to write the automation which is handy.
