Bill, I was able to change my avatar pretty easily. I just downloaded a pic that was (I think) less than 200x200 to my desktop and then used that.
What problems are you having in changing your avatar? 

When I go to Avatar Upload a file and click on whatever pic I choose I get an hour glass and nothing. In the past the Avatar would appear and show the current one. Now nothing. It's the same when uploading pictures in a post. I used to switch Avatars according to the Holiday and post pictures to show a topic. Now when I do it nothing happens. It's been that way for a while
