Believe me the terror threat hasn't changed a damn thing here in the UK apart from airports perhaps. Really life is quite normal here we are used to this sort of thing.

Interesting it happens just at the time the govt wants to introduce more related legislation.

Having said that an MP I happen to know was beaten up and his head got thrust into my local coffee shop and hit all the headlines a few days ago. Oh and somebody got stabbed to death in my local bar. One was gang related and one was a looney on a political agenda. Life continues as normal.

I still fail to see why Salmond keeps pushing for independence.  Surely he knows we'll simply take back Scotland like Russia is taking back Ukraine...

As usual the English do not get a vote. Maybe we want to be independant from Scotland? (looking at Darling and Brown there's a pretty good case for it).

I wonder how many times they've messed with this "threat level" since 9/11, and yet nothing has come of it (apart from the London bombings, which seem to have been isolated). I must admit that, despite not being a "conspiracy" type, I do wonder if we're being manipulated with these threat levels.

I can give you one concrete example that I'll never forget there sharkey - [primarily because it was so
see-through in it's transparency, that I was surprised there wasn't a national outrage about it]:

The day was Thursday, 2004 early Nov. [or late Oct.].
The up-coming Tuesday, 5 days later, would be the 2004 Presidential Election day where George Dubya Moron would go on to *defeat* John Kerry.

[*Defeat* if you believe in fair elections, that is, for even he said that Presidents were 'installed' and not actually 'elected'. He added that elections were only to give the people 'the impression' that their vote would matter. Think back to the 2000 election where Al Gore actually 'won' that election fair & square, but it subsequently boiled down to the state of Florida, where the Governor was - you guessed it - 'Jeb Bush'.
Gee, how convenient!]

So, on the Thursday before, the Republican Party 'raised' the supposed terrorist alert to 'Red' or 'Orange' - the highest level or the one just below that - [can't quite recall now].

It gave the nation the whole weekend to think about it, but doing it on Thursday obviously seemed better than on the Friday - one more office, subway, bar room & coffee shop day to talk about it all before the election.

Sure enough, young 'double term failure' there indeed went on to his second term [whereby his popularity would continue on with it's steady decline].

And sure enough the 'falsely raised terrorist alert' had gone - just as fast as it had appeared - all without a single ounce of details, proof, reason, just provocation or even conjecture.

Just an ultra vague, perfectly timed, ever so easily placed, 'distraction advantage' using fear, as always, this time to sway the electoral decision making machine, which of course would be the main topic of thought & discussion for most Americans for that whole weekend/5 day stretch - [for most folks, anyway].

And nobody - absolutely nobody asked, inquired or even thought twice about it, [the false terrorist alert], because of course by Tuesday, the news was now onto the election, and the election only, which the Rep Party knew would happen.

It's almost as if the Rep Party had this in mind many years before hand - and made sure it made the news just 5 days before the election.

Again - how convenient!
