Ouch. $569 with the discount. I'll keep using the free one from Meldaproduction.

Nugen is a prime example of a good producst that are ridiculously overpriced. More power to whoever can afford this.

Some vendors intentionally price their products to be out of the range of amateurs because they a) only want to deal with professionals, and b) want to be perceived as the choice of professionals.

There is some practical justification for such a strategy. If you're an employee expensing off your tools, you don't care about the cost - it's somebody else's money - you just want the best that money can buy. And we're conditioned to assume that price is the primary indicator of quality. So if you want your product to be perceived as top-tier, you'd better price it accordingly or risk not being taken seriously.

This particular tool is marketed specifically to the broadcast industry. It's not for us.

I agree with Bit...

The thing to consider....Sale prices are more "in line" with what a product
should ACTUALLY be priced at...

i.e. Waves IR-1  $500  - really?   While it was one of the FIRST Convo Reverbs
that price is NOW way out of line..but $50 or even $100...that's more "in line"

Not in this Nugen case of course..as, even the sale price is outrageous...for the "average guy"
but Waves sale prices are more "like what the price should be
all the time" and the same with IK...they ALL overprice their product right out of the gate to:

1.  Prey on those with GAS who HAVE to be the "first kid on the block to have it"
2.  So that, when it does go on sale, they can keep the price where it should be priced and still make money

So, if anyone has "any sense" they would hold off buying ANYTHING till it goes on sale..and 9 out
of 10 times it DOES go on sale shortly after release.  It's a common marketing strategy to get

Group A - the Gas-a-holics - GET THE MOST YOU CAN GET FIRST
Group B - the Sale Waiters - THEN GET THOSE WHO ACTUALLY HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE
Group C - those who come in at the last minute (Group Buys) - GET ALL REST...(this is usually
the best time to buy...but the product has usually reached a "sell out" status or a new version is
on the horizon.

I've been waiting for S-Gear to go on sale for over a year.  While I do feel it's worth the money,
I have more amp sims then Carter has Liver Pills...so it's not a necessity for me...
If I can't get it on sale I won't be buying it...I keep an eye or KVR for it too...

Same goes with all the other products....I look for "lowest possible price" and that's when I pounce.
(which should be obvious from my posts - I usually "comparison" shop...and find the "best possible deal"

But that's just "me"

I'm poorer then poor...so I can't spend "The Big Bucks" on this stuff...

Hey Larry, s-gear is my favorite amp sim. I hope you can get it on sale soon.

The Loudness log profiling feature can pay full price for itself.

Price never seems to have very much to do with value, when there is an actual value in using a product.

It is difficult to regard opinions of price "value" too seriously from people who make a hobby of saving money by buying more products than they will ever possibly use.

I'm much more interested in opinions of "value" shared by people who actually make a lot of use out of the products they discuss.

I've been waiting for an S-Gear sale, too.

Or for somebody to come along and do it as well for fifty bucks, to do for amp sims what ValhallaDSP did for reverbs.

I agree with that also Mike...you can be "overwhelmed" by a plethora of "things"...

But to "Jump" on something just to be the "first to have it", and pay top dollar, which
has been "inbred" into our Psyche...we are programmed from youth for this purpose...that is
what I'm getting at...

There is "actual" value and "perceived" value...products are priced at "company perceived" value to
create the "illusion" of "value".  They are purposely priced high so that when "sale" time does roll around
it makes it seem like a far better "value", while actually being the "real" value.

There are far too many VERY WORTHY freebies out there to keep your products priced "in the sky".
Products like "Valhalla" also should make the "big guys" take note...

One of my other "main" considerations is "resale value".  If I buy it, find I don't really use it, and/or don't
really need it, how much of the initial investment can I recoup.

Coming from a broadcast background I understand full well that value often trumps price. There is a point of diminishing returns and that line is not always clear due to perception.
