I would say that calling someone stupid out loud is only of any potential benefit to bystanders who are too stupid to recognize other's stupidity in action for themselves. It is unlikely to have any positive benefit for anyone else, so why bother? 
 
If you're talking to yourself then you don't need to do it out loud.
 
And if scoring points in an argument with a stupid person is important to you, then who is being stupid?

You're reading way too much into it. Sometimes, when someone is being extra dumb, it just feels right to tell them. And it's not as if I didn't accompany the slur with an explanation.

You know, though I must have "liked" +600 pages, I avoid to read comments as much as possible, because stupid is ALWAYS present.
 
I've even unfollowed many relatively good friends who regularly post political and philosophical content because they happen to accept requests from just about any idiot and those idiots are the first to pollute the comment section.
 
My Facebook is all about cats, guitars, music I like, Darth Vader figures and KISS collectibles.
 
And the obvious quasi-daily Ron Burgundy quote. ;)
