This is one of your favorite things to do when you're not actually working on music...

Building sampler instruments. :)

I really can't imagine myself w/o the Logic/EXS-24 combo anymore - it's at the very center of my creative process and I can build entire pieces of music using only that. It's always worth it, putting the time into creating custom instruments.

I've recently demo'ed Cubase 7 to see whether or not I intended to upgrade but it seems I'm way passed the point where another DAW could stimulate my creativity.

On a shameful sidenote, I've also recently come to the realization that I often seem to prefer sampled synths to virtual synth emulations... :/

Funny thing is that I just created a basic 24 tracks/all EXS-24 template minutes ago. All three new projects I've started tonight had me duplicating EXS tracks over and over again - it's all I used. I figured that I might as well have a template ready.

For more conventional drums/bass/guitar/keys, I don't really have a template because I never know what I'll use or record first and how. But my odd instrumental work seems to be pretty much always following the formula - load a sampler, browse and jam away.

Incidentally, if not for the beautiful lady, I doubt that I'd ever indulged in buying a Mac and Logic - she made me do it. ;)
