Thanks larry. I am finding myself trying to work at lower levels to begin with. It is hard to break the old analog habit of trying to record everything as hot as possible without clipping. Digital can be recorded at lower levels without hitting the noise floor. When I do remember to do that I find I have so much more room to work with in my mix.

I always try to "go to tape" as hot as possible. From there, it's all about
levels. gainstaging, and placement in the stereo field...
A good recording is worth a MILLION plugins...IJS...
