It isn't the mute button. I think it is something in the input, maybe the jack. The mute button pops pretty loud when I press it, some of the pots crackle, and if I turn up the volume and master I get a pretty good hiss from the speakers, so something from the amp is hitting the speakers, just nothing from the instrument. I'm going to pull the chasis and take a look.

Been there done that... more than a tingle though, lol. We had the old SM-57 hinged pistol mics and I don't remember what they were running through. It was outside, it was the 60s, it went ZZZAAAAPP on my lip. It will make you stop touching the mic with your mouth!

Zap-- when dat used to happen my tail will go straight and I cannot sit for a few hours..

The Peavy will sound bad for singing but I used to use that thing for a guitar amp and it has a spring reverb good for making thunder sound..

I pulled the chassis, pulled all the knobs and input nuts and removed the front PCB. I couldn't find anything that was loose or looked burnt. I still think it is in the input because the amp puts a good hiss through the speakers if I max the level and master, even more if I turn up the EQ section, everything a 12:00 and it is quiet... all that is normal, but I get nothing from the input jack. I would replace it but it is a black plastic affair soldered right to the PCB, it's nothing like a traditional input jack.
I plan to take it to Wizard Electronics in Atlanta to see if it can be fixed without too much cost. I don't know what else to do.
