I've noticed that the RAM prices have actually gone up since I built my rig back in June of 2013.

I bought 2x8Gb sticks for $129 and now they're $166 HERE and a bit more HERE.

Aren't they supposed to coming down in prices (at regular intervals)??

I have noticed over the last 20 years or so that there seems to be an ebb and flow to ram prices. They'll most likely come down again soon.

Well, I'm not sure if they will or will not come down........I looked around a bit and found this: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-23/chip-prices-reach-two-year-high-after-sk-hynix-fire-in-china.html
So, it looks like things will have to depend on how well things are going on in the East and how long this honeymoon is going to last.

does RAM ever 'burn out'? like after having been used too long?

There are application out there which will put your RAM on overnight test.

I'm not sure RAM is everything. I have 16Gb but I never use more than 8Gb (5Gb on average) even with tons of Kontakt, Reaktor and other heavy stuff going on. I feel better that I have more but I rarely use all of it. Video work with other software however is a different matter.

When I started in the computer business, an 8 MB board cost $16,000. Yes, that's an "M", not a "G".
