UAD needs to catch a clue...like waves has done...and really put their overpriced plugs on sale. Who still buys their stuff nowadays??

Hey olpal, didn't you notice the current UAD promo?  Buy 2 or more plugs and save big bucks ... buy 4 plugs, get 40% off!  And as of now, you can use the $19 guitar tuner as one of the choices, increasing your discount.  That's a good deal if you've had your eye on two or three of the newer pricey products, which rarely go on sale individually.  And the coupon helps ease the pain ... a little.

I'm With Ol pal on this one ....other the years we've seen the game changing ....how can you see a PA plugin at 89 $ when it's 300 in the UA store ?

Also their dongle thing makes me wonder if they really have an interest optimising Plugin Coding ... (anyway not the debate here) ..... i do think that giving the quality and the game actualy (PA, Softube , Slate, even Waves) they should not bet too much on their name ....and high price things to make people think those are the bests plugins availlable ....

They do have some exceptional plugs. But they also have exceptional prices for them AND their hardware dongles. They are a mature company and should have already "waked up and smelled the coffee" as it were and lowered either their prices of the cards and/or their plugs. Really, both. Their current pricing structure sucks IMHO. YMMV.

Yes, those UAD pluggies are expensive.  But really, they're not THAT much more than most of the regularly-priced offerings from Waves, PA, Softube, Soundtoys, FabFilter, Melda ... none of those sell for peanuts.  In any case, if UA ever sees themselves losing too much business to cheaper rivals, expect them to cut prices and/or have more frequent sales with bigger discounts.  They're just charging what the current market will bear, and will have to adjust if and when market conditions dictate.

Are they worth it?  That's up to each individual to decide.  In my view, while other vendors have made big strides in sound quality of their products, UA is still tops when it comes to emulations of real hardware.  If your goal is to get as close as possible to the sound of vintage studio gear ITB, UA is your shop.

Still, it's certainly possible to produce great-sounding music without UAD or other pricey stuff.  The guy who won last year's PureMix challenge used mostly free plugs.  Just goes to show you ... it's not the tools, it's the person using them.

Cheers,
Eddie
