Though in my days, the Silvertone brand had been discontinued and Sears catalog guitars were sold under the name "Harmony". My best friend had one of those Harmony - a cream strat w/ maple neck. Man, I envied him!

Anyway, many of my heroes started out on a Silvertone, and I was rather surprised when I saw the brand on AMS site tonight.

I mean the big 12" speaker amps. Not those toys.

I had a Silvertone amp. It must have put out all of 5 Watts, through a 10-inch speaker. I thought it was pretty awful back in the day. Wish I still had it!

BTW, there is a Wikipedia entry for Silvertone. According to that, the first product under the Silvertone brand was a hand-cranked phonograph in 1915. Today, the brand is owned by Korean manufacturer Samick, who builds Squire and some Epiphone guitars in Indonesia.

I got my first electric...a no name brand slab of wood with a single pickup...when my roommate at military school got a new Silvertone guitar with the amp in the case and I got his hand-me-down.  I loved having any electric guitar but I sure envied his rig.

My first real amp was a Silvertone 1485, all tube, two output transformers, 6x10 Special Design Jensen speakers. Using both inputs actually made it a lot louder, it really was too loud. "I Can See For Miles" sounded killer through it.
Someone stole it from a club long ago but I still have the footswitch! I can't believe they sell for over 1k USD now.
