Is there a desperate need for something like this if one only uses Sonar? What can this do for Sonar that Sonar can't do itself?
Nah, the Sonar FX Chain feature does the same thing. The Waves version is a little nicer graphically I think, and the Add Plugin menu gives you all your Waves plugins nicely organized by function. Other than that, until it's possible to load other vendors' VSTs into the rack I'd stick with Sonar's thing.

Edit: some have reported lower CPU usage when running Waves plugins in the rack. If so, that would be a reason to try it if you're running a lot of CPU-hungry Waves stuff.
