@ Craigb... Sure, they were missing their Captain (suspended due to multiple yellow cards) and their best player (broken vertebrae), but they just gave up after the first goal was scored against them.  Sad.
Did you hear what they said about the player with the vertebrae problem? I wish I had paid more attention because I could swear the announcer said that he had a fractured vertebrae, could not feel his legs, mentioned paralysis, and then if I heard right he said he should be, and I quote, "right as rain in a month"... really? I wish my back healed like that. If he has a fractured vertebrae and cannot feel his legs I don't quite see how he will ever be "right as rain" EVER again, much less in a month.

Well, yes, he has a fractured vertebrae, but often it's a hairline fracture which means it will heal itself.  They showed pictures of him walking at his home prior to the Brazil game so I'm not sure where the "can't feel his legs" or paralysis comments came from.  Now, after that game against Germany, it wouldn't surprise me that he may feel paralized!

Nepal teenager commits suicide after Brazil defeat
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) -- A teenager in eastern Nepal committed suicide after her favorite team Brazil lost badly to Germany in the World Cup semifinals, police said Thursday.
Police said the 10th grade student was depressed and hanged herself from the ceiling on Wednesday morning in Bharaul village located 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the capital Katmandu.

Argentine players and fans were crying yesterday after they won... it is a little scary to me for people to be this emotionally involved in a game. Sort of like hearing noises in the dark or something, it is disconcerting. Where was it that they had big riots at soccer games a few years ago.. and why?

I would hazard a guess that anyone doing that has far deeper issues than the result of a football game.

Unfortunately there's been a history of violence associated with football which dates back to the 19th Century, although the media picked up on 'football hooligans' over here in the 1960's, when rivalry between certain teams led to clashes between 'firms' or gangs of supporters, before during and after the games. It's all to do with ritualized male aggression, and little to do with the sport.
