I'll listen to The Beatles Live at BBC 12 times in a row anytime before almost anything that's been released in the last 15 years.

As far as I'm concerned, high quality audio practically died in the 90s. The potential for high quality is unprecedented, but what we actually do with that potential should be enough to justify death penalty.

just picked up two of the recently remastered led zeppelin catalog (2 and 3)

other recent buys:

QOTSA Like Clockwork
Mastodon, Once More 'round the sun
Foo Fighters, Wasting Light
Humble Pie, Smokin
Heart, Fanatic
Kruger Brothers, Between the Notes
Rush, Clockwork Angels

i enjoy listening to cd's so much more than listening to mp3's.

when i a/b them back to back, for me, it's always a no contest.

i don't want to buy a thousand cd's just to rip wav files...
i wish there was a better delivery system.
underwhelmed by FLAC, don't use apple for anything,
i typically rip 320 kbps mp3's and just run with it for portable sound.

but if i'm at home and want to listen to something,
i crank up the yamaha amplifier, throw in a cd in my yammy cd player,
listen thru my Infinity Efficiency Standards, and groove

What actual file format are '.cda' files? I thought they were just instructions to SOME audio files on the disc? I'm gonna admit I lied above- I have an iPod and iTunes converts the audio files on the cd (I actually don't know the format...) to .m4a, very good sound quality in my opinion (although who am I to say)

If you look at Bob Katz's Honor Roll of Dynamic Recordings, there's very little there from 1990 onwards. In fact that's a great resource to find some really fantastic sounding music. I got into Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" (which is one of the best sounding live albums I've heard) and Joe Jackson's "Body And Soul" through that list. Both of which require that you crank the volume knob a good way in order to obtain the volume you want - always a good sign!

Listening to the Munich/Hamburg shows is the tops for me. The recordings sukkyaki, but the music and the playful banter is great. You can almost see how a "Hard Day's Night" and "Help" were able to come to fruition later. Not to mention material that showed up much later! That old bootleg, still is, a great one for me, and wish I had not lost it to a serious rain downpour here in Vancouver that one time took away almost 100 albums from my collection! the Beatles Christmas show was the other one.
