...to suggest that the track was actually her warming up.

I've heard my wife warming up practically every day for 5 years and I can count the number of times she hit a sour note on the fingers of one hand. Same when learning new material.

But then again, she's an actual singer.

The vocal warmup explanation lets her off the hook a little, but not entirely. I would think a skilled singer would have to make a conscious effort to sing that out of tune.

Beat me to it. I'd also like to add that when I was playing classical guitar seriously, I'd go through a 30 minute series of warmup exercises before I did anything else, and I certainly wasn't sloppy with my technique during them. Same with singing - if you're warming up to sing in tune, then you sing in tune.

Orbit might as well said that she is learning the song. Now I know it is hard to believe that if you do not know the song, that anyone may sing it in-correctly to begin with when you are uncomfortable with the song.

I think the whole deal is mean-spirited in the end.

Now listen to something good:

As I said, I've seen my wife learning new material - the music for the show underwent a practically complete rewrite in January, and a lot of it really was not written in her primary range and style (coloratura soprano). It wasn't easy, but she could sing it in tune.

I think a lot of people misunderstand what being a singer really is, because we tend to think in terms of untrained pop singers. But there's as much difference between a singer and Spears as there is between a brain surgeon and a primitive tribe sorcerer. And in the case of Spears, not even a good sorcerer.

And while I do agree that we tend to be mean, I think that it often comes as a reaction to the senseless adulation and adoration of often questionable talented people.

Millions adore her and made her rich. She enjoys all the privilege of stardom. But there's another side to that coin. On the other hand, if she could carry a tune, at least she wouldn't have to worry about such things.

By the way, I'd be the first to condemn personal attacks. But here, we're talking about her professional merits. There's no need to further lower the bar (if that's even possible) and to spare so-called singers who can't sing.

Exactly. And it bothers me that kids look up to these trashy prepackaged celebrity frauds.

I bet she probably wears underwear in public and doesn't go clubbing with useless people either.

I am not defending her, but in this video I only hear autotune in one place and it is short.
I think if a singer sang that way all the time, she would have never made it in the first place.

And don't sit there and tell me I can not hear autotune with what they did to correct her voice in the other video on that link. It is all over the place.
Now, I do not listen to her music anyway, but then if other people are, you can complain all you want to, I think that they just do not care anyway.

And I been around other females that sing that way but even better, and it just does not work in the end.
Just do not believe everything that is on the Internet by a long shot.

If you were to hear the raw tracks of almost any modern day pop singer it would probably surprise you how "off pitch" they are. Not all by any means...Beyoncé and Lady Gaga come to mind as singers with great pitch...but many are simply adequate in the studio. And most are out sung by their own backup singers. Such is the technology of popular music "hit" recording. Even my own group of professional singer's original raw tracks sound markedly worse to my finished "tweaked" tracks. "Nothing is real...and nothing to get hung about".
