It happened on a service call yesterday. The customer said the dog was chained, and I followed her out the back door.
Well, he was on a chain, but it was too long. He shot past her, and before I even saw him, he was sinking his teeth into my right wrist and looking me in the eye. No bark or warning of any kind.
My first thought was @##*^!!! that hurts!.
I retreated back into the house and headed for the first aid kit in my van.
My second thought, as I was looking at the exposed tendons through the holes in my skin, and losing all sensation in my hand, was hoping this didn't impact my guitar playing.
As of this evening, the wound seems to be healing properly, but the doctor says some superficial nerve damage may be permanent.
I can hold a pick, but I can't entirely feel it yet. Hoping for the best.

Company policy what it is, then I would say that the company does not allow anyone else to go there without police escort. And that be about it.
(so they can shoot if necessary).

Hope it all goes well healing also.

If only, Straummy, ol pal. If only.

Too bad the pooches always take the rap for those dimbulbed and misguided owners who breed them, chain them and train them to be vicious.

Human beings...why bother?

Hope you heal up perfectly, Robert.

The woman was a surprised as I was, Steve. Her husband had led her to believe it was safe to go into the yard.
Believe me, he was getting an earful on the phone, and I'm sure he got more when he got home.
As soon as she realized what was happening, and it was fast, she pulled the chain to get the dog away from me.
And she was behind me very quickly with alcohol to wash the wounds. I think she was more freaked out than I was.
I have been exposed to hundreds of Pit Bulls, and you are quite right, Bat. You can't trust them, but they are generally fine if  the owner is present. Most exhibit some warning behavior, and if there is any question, the dog is contained in some way. The vast majority of large breed owners contain their dogs before I enter the home.
I hate Yorkshire Terriers. Everybody down here has them, and they seem to have no idea what a nasty disposition these dogs have. I've been bitten by several of them, but they are mostly nuisance bites. Little nips around your ankles. Nothing compared to what an 80 lb Pit can inflict.
This dog was trained. I realize there are some crap neighborhoods around here, but I don't think people fully grasp the implications of having a volatile weapon in their yard.
The required forms have been filed with the state of Texas. We'll see what happens from there.

I think you need to sue for damages some new gear!

Good thing you were able to get the dog to let you go.
