Wishing you well and you should definitely go for charges, I hate to see dogs maligned when the owners are to 100% blame but once you have a badly trained and violent dog it is hard to correct.

Positive vibes on your healing.

ALL terriers are a potential problem, and the smaller they are, the BIGGER the potential problem.
I had "Jacks" for a number of years, raised about 27 pups all told.
The first one, Derby (I loved that dog), I had sused in about 5 minutes when my wife brought her home.
I told her that if she was a hound pup I have to euthanize her.
NO WAY she would have made it in a pack of hounds; she (or probably your "best" hound would end up dead).
There's no room in a hound for aggressive behavior towards other dogs (or, obviously, people).
While I agree that MOST problem dogs can be traced back to bad handling (problem people),  the "Pits" have
been bred to FIGHT; that's what the "Pit" is - the arena.
The breed exists to "please"  a long, long line of "PROBLEM" people.
I'm sorry, euthanize them all.
I've seen first hand the result of "good" dogs that "accidentally" grabbed a child BY THE FACE.
"They didn't mean to do it, they got excited, grandma shouldn't have opened the gate"; etc., etc..
A "pit" is a hand grenade with a faulty pin.
"No firearm is ever 'unloaded' T, even when the bolt is out, you still treat it like its loaded".
That's how I was trained, and the "Pit" is ALWAYS LOADED!
</RANT>
Bob I sincerely wish you a full recovery.

Q. How can you tell if a dog is a Pit Bull?

A. Look for key identifiers like a low forehead, barrel chest, bandy legs and an aggressive stance, as well as there usually being a thick chain around the neck. If those features are present, chances are that the dog they have with them is a Pit Bull.

Sorry to hear that Bob, bad business. Over here, various breeds now have a bad rep because ****heads have decided they make them look 'tough'..the Staffordshire Bull Terrier can be a lovely dog but I give them all a very wide berth around here, especially when they're accompanied by a Ned in a baseball cap and jogging pants.

The usual reaction I get when I say I own a Jack Russell terrier is 'ooh, nasty, snappy little dogs', but Rocky is anything but, he's the softest dog you can imagine.

This is the reason pitbulls and associated breeds are now banned in the UK. We've had too many deaths of babies and young children recently caused by bull terriers.

As Tom said, pitbulls were deliberately bred to fight and you can't take that mental attitude away from them with a "loving home".

Sorry to hear that Bob. I hope your hand heals back ok. I think Pit Bulls and other aggressive breed owners should be held to certain rules if they insist on owning them. When an attack happens, it isn't usually the owner who looses a body part.

It could have been much worse. You could have been this guy....

I was out jogging a couple of months ago and had a loose Pit Bull home it's radar in on me.  It was across the street and started coming at me with that "attack" look in its eye.  I stopped and yelled at the dog thinking that would break that trance, but it didn't.  Kept coming at me, just at a slow approaching pace.  I finally decided to try an old trick that has worked in the past, to reach down and pretend like I was picking up a rock to throw.  Well....even that didn't work, it kept coming, now with teeth bared.  I thought I was cooked.  Just then a car came speeding down this residential road and it spead out of the way of the car and went the other direction.  I got out of there fast.  I never located who's Pit Bull that was, even though I returned in a car later, looking for the dog.
