Got the card installed last night. After a bit of confusion as to where the VSTs ended up so I could scan them, I got it all working.
First thing I wanted to test was the Echoplex model. As I mentioned before, I'm a huge fan and I have a great EP3 sitting on my desk in front of me. The best emu I've found so far is the IK version in their custom shop. I was unimpressed with the UAD version; I just couldn't get it to sound like the real deal I'm used to and it didn't respond to the controls like I'm used to. I even wondered if I was missing some secret switch somewhere. I will hit the docs, but probably no need to dive deep as the IK is a great version.
Tried the the EMT 140 plate. This is very cool. I have the Lexicon LXP so I'm not sure I can justify getting just this plate reverb, but it is on my list and I will probably pick it up on a sale.
Next was the Dimension D. Let's just say I bought this immediately! :) I forgot how great these units are, and the UAD version is wicked good. I'm really happy with this purchase.
I'm going to compare the analog classics stuff that comes on the card to the waves plugs I have here in a bit on a project I'm working on. Per the advice of many, I think my native stuff will keep up just fine with the UAD. I'm glad I got a solo card (and glad I got a UAD card period), but I think I will focus on a few plugins that UAD has unique to them and not try to duplicate the native stuff I have - as even a small incremental improvement probably doesn't justify the cost and effort.
It's fun to finally be in the UAD club!
