I´m asking myself why the support of the VS-Series is so unsatisfying?
There's a topic which announced the winning of the MIPA for the best recording hardware. So the VS-100 and VS-700 are really good and worth to support. There are enough wishes from users to enhance the features and make it still better .
 
I think support is not enough with only releasing actual drivers - although I´m really grateful that they did.
But please, support your hardware, they're really good and have potential for more.

I'm not sure why Roland lost interest developing drivers for VS series, especially since they don't have any other competing products in this category. I own a VS-100 and I feel that the drivers can enable a lot more functionality than what is available right now. Like accessing the SD-card storage from computer and enabling all channels to record to SD-Card among others. I feel that these limitations are just put in place artificially, and we need a good open source alternative to unlock the full potential. Unfortunately, these interfaces are not popular enough to get third-party support, but they sure look great though.

I think your last sentence is the answer as to why Roland ceased developing the drivers - not enough users = not enough interest = not enough profit in it!!  Even the VS-700 was decidedly absent from the Roland stand at NAMM this year.  Apparently the reason was they wanted to showcase 'new' stuff.   In my view very few people get the opportunity to have a look at all the Roland kit, unless they are fortunate enough to have a decent dealer nearby.  Events like NAMM should be a showcase for ALL the 'excellent existing stuff' as well as new so that 'new' users (like me) will see what is possible and be inspired!!

yes that could be the reason why. The Interfaces are not popular enough.

Maybe they have to be distributed under Roland and not under Cakewalk by Roland. Because users of other DAW's rather don't buy an interface from Cakewalk/Sonar with functions like ACT, which only work in Sonar. I think the interface should have been designed more for the public to get more popular.

Yes, its a shame especially as the VS-100 DOES work in other DAW's and Roland perhaps did not shout loud enough about its features and compatibility.

Hi,

this was unfortunetly the last update and I think also the only one of the VS-100.
This unit has got so much more potential. Maybe we had to shout much louder to Cakewalk/Roland, so they notice the user.

What with those who bought a VS-700? They spend even more money and the unit doesn't really work 100% with X1 and X2, as far as I know. They must feel even more abandoned!

yeah, that's really shame roland has abandoned VS-100. 
I will think twice now before I buy something from that company.

I will be disappointed if Cakewalk/Roland give up on these units. It appears that they have given up here in New Zealand as the 100 is unavailable and there is only 1 VS700 left for sale- and that's half price.

But maybe the future for control surfaces is touch and who wants to be locked into one well integrated DAW surface (eg VS700) when so many of us use multiple DAWs?
