Hey bit, have you had a chance to hear it or use it? I was just wondering what your impressions were if you had. I don't know the hows or whys of what it does. I only know that I like what it does. I think there's a demo for it. I'd like to hear what you think about it.

I'll accept that, Larry. Skepticism and the need to take things apart is part of who I am, but I completely understand that not everyone gives a flyin' f(ck about how stuff works. I'm just here to look out for those folks, so they don't get duped by unscrupulous marketers. Don't think of me as that weird guy who questions everything, think of me as the guy who's got your back.

I get that...always have...and skepticism is good...I live by it...the proof is in the pudding as the saying goes...

Here's what the manual says about this:

"The EQ4’s band passes all interact with each other as well. In turning the EQ or AIR BAND® gain up, the overall gain will come up a bit as well. This is normal behavior and a necessary byproduct of the design. You may use the LEVEL TRIM to turn down overall gain to compensate this, or use the original hardware solution.".

When you turn the virtual knob up to 10 it pushes the air up 20-22dB and it raises the broad band up 6dB.

Just goes to show you can get a patent for anything if you know how to write patent applications.
 
BTW, the patent applies only to the hardware version, not to the software emulation. Just as the filters shown in the patent document are pretty vanilla, so in all likelihood are the ones in the software version. At least one clone exists (I've actually tried - and subsequently deleted - it; video here).
 
My curiosity has been piqued. Even though there's no way I'll ever pay 200 bucks for a fixed-band equalizer, I've got to give this one a go. Yes, there is a demo available. You have to create an account with PA and download a license file, but then it's a 14-day demo period with no functional restrictions. I won't move this to the top of my to-do list right away, but sometime in the next week or so I'm gonna have a close look at it.

ReaEq an option. I use it for everything bass, 6 string. Free if you can't afford the expensive stuff and works rock solid in Sonar. Comes with a bundle of other interesting plugs.
 
Lacks a lot of the automated functions in the likes of Melda eq's, but hard core bread and butter. One of the things I appreciate most is the straightforward GUI presentation. Always know where I'm at.
 
Allows as many bands as needed, starts with 4. Allows choice of 10 different band applications on any band.
 
Has the standard gain, bandwidth and center point on any band.
 
Has a real time graphic of the freq response of the track which updates as the eq is changed so you can see what you are doing with the original signal.
 
Tip for bass is to use default band 1 (set to a low pass), reduce the band width to the point you get a sliding resonance. Works killer on drums as well.

Can't argue the price. Admit my ears are a bit blown out over the decades, and would be really interested if anyone thinks this is a piece of crap in the light of better options, and why. Just here to learn.

and is free of artifacts.  What it does is extraordinary to say the least.  The method - I'm sure that's
patented by Maag.

You know, I forgot about another EQ that I thought was nice. The PSP McQ has a smooth sound. The top end is especially sweet sounding.
