For me, 'Dark Side' is as near as they came to a completely satisfying album, although 'Wish You Were Here' is close. They started to lose me with 'The Wall', and I don't think I ever heard 'The Final Cut'.

When "The Wall" the movie was previewed before it was released in a couple of cities, we travelled to SF to see it in a special invitation showing, and it was 22 minutes longer than the actual release.

In it, were the pieces and parts that ended up showing up in "The Final Cut" which makes the WW2 part of the story better and more continuous and even helps understand the parent a bit better in it all, and then finally thrown into a meat factory ... too many children from a generation that was almost completely raped and wiped out in Europe.

All in all, I did not think "The Final Cut" that big a deal, but a couple of rips in it are awesome and they were the only new things, like "Not Now John" and all that!

I've got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things that make it look good.

From one of my all-time favorite Floyd tunes. It's a silly song, but it's been stuck in my head for nigh on 40 years.
I like The Wall, but to be fully appreciated, I think it needs to be experienced as a whole. The individual songs seem to loose something when taken out of context. As part of the story, each song has much more meaning, another brick, so to speak.

Me too! I love Relics. Bike is a cool tune.

I got into PF during the "More" and then "Ummagumma" days.
Me too. I singer and acoustic guitar in a band in 1970/71 and we did a cover of Fat Old Sun... I still like to do it sometime. Those were some good days, at least that is what they tell me.
For DSOTM was their pinnacle, though I really enjoy watching the Meddle era Pompeii concert.
They were a GREAT band and I wish they could find a way to set aside differences and tour together as PF, I mean Roger and David. Same with Greg Allman and Dickey Betts.. though I know enough about Dickey to wonder how they managed to put up with him as long as they did... still, they are magic together, like David and Roger.
The records still take you to a time and place though.

I had The Wall. It was OK, I did my duty and went to see the movie, passed out and slept through it... lol.

When I later learned that the WALL was something Roger erected between him and the audience.. I'm not sure how to take that. It seems weird... but it is PF.

I named a raccoon that used to visit us Floyd...

Quick ... name the dogs! And not the one in the movie, because that was not a dog. That was a "she", and she was great! (Mademoiselle Knobs)
