The StarClub album hopefully is my next purchase. I want to hear them as they were back then. Reviews state it is lo-fi audio but I can accept that for the chance to experience what they were like before the big time started.

I like the original bootlegs of these shows in with all their bits between songs! And it also shows and tells you really well where they came from and how much work they already had and ended up doing later. There's stuff in there that ended up in Let it Be!

A quick scan of Pedro's reply and I seem to recall seeing sheep and bull.

Yeah, you had too much sheep dip in your time to know better and hear it too, hey?

I translated it as needing to hear Pink Floyd's Animals again.

Revolution in the Head is a great Beatles book too.

Every song they ever recorded with details about the recording techniques, inspiration for songs, etc. And also how all the infighting, back stabbing and drug use in the group influenced the final product.

My new go to bathroom book.

Yes! I want to hear their stage banter. Beyond just being talented singers and musicians, the book also indicted they were effective communicators with their audiences, and it was not unlikely for some humour and even insults to be made at times, especially while in Hamburg.

These StarClub CD's are apparently rare or in high demand as they are commanding a good price on Amazon.

A friend read this and liked it. Another one to add to wish list. :-)

The Christmas Shows, the bootleg from the Hamburg Concerts are all massively good. The quality may not sound "perfect" since we're so spoiled, but you will be able to write a history of almost a third of their material and hear fun stuff like Freda and many other fun lines between the songs!

I've read them all.

Each author seems to have a bias toward a particular Beatle.

As they say "authors imitate life".

Footmoot:

As a group the one thing that they brought to the fore was the idea that all of the members names were "known" to the general public.

Before that it was So and So and The <insert androgynous group name>.
