  • What is up with audio gurus making tutorial videos that sound like not so good?

I mean... really?

I just watched a DAW tutorial video with a max RMS level of -13dBFS and an average of -33dBFS.

I had to put on headphones just to hear what the guru was saying while watching it on my laptop.

[TIP] if you are going to make a tutorial video about audio make sure the audio sounds like it was prepared by someone who knows something about audio.

Just saying.

Those who can - do.

Those who can't - teach.

Those who can't teach - become critics, usually 'pretending more than anything else' to actually know what they're talking about, so as to justify their condescending & often completely inaccurate comments & statements.

Those who can't do any of the above - get quickly recruited & hired by governments everywhere - who are then overpaid & underworked, receive countless bonuses, benefits and other massive expense accounts and cash payouts over the years, only to end up with entirely undeserved ultra-healthy retirement packages.

Pardon the partial rant - I guess I'm just sayin' too...

I know and have known a lot of great teachers and the video I watched was pertinent and helpful with regards to something I was eager to learn about.

I just couldn't hear the dialogue without headphones. I could have heard it on one of my big audio systems but only because they have lots of excess power available. Under the circumstance, I found that ironic.

It seems like it should be a simple decision to turn up the levels before you upload the video.

Eli Krantzberg is one of my favorite educational video makers. I feel like I could be friends with him.

I really like Kenny Gioia.

He doesn't waste the 5 minutes talking about his tutorial website before doing a 30 second tutorial. He just goes for it. I like that!

When watching education vids about mixing etc I actually wish the music was the loudest party and the narrators voice wasn't booming out 5 times as loud

I think a lot of video makers don't record the voice separately from the daw out. Consequently it is like a one take wonder. The person making the video doesn't know if he's heard well until it is over.
