I suppose if you are modeling analog gear then you model everything - warts and all.  But some of the hiss coming off of these plugs is nuts.  Waves and Slate Digital especially.  [:P]

My analog hiss is better than those guys modeled hiss anyways.

Just saying. ;-)

Some have Hiss and Hers...

Fortunately there are widgets on most plugs to either turn it off or attenuate it. Other than use as an effect or to purposely sound noisy I don't see the rationale of including it.

how come all the high gain modeled guitar patches are very noisy, usually requiring the built in gate, typically provided?

They are "realistically" Modeled, and contain all the "hiss and noise" that accompanies a High Gain
Amplifier...add in all the other modeled analog gear, with it's own inherent noise, and there you
have it...so, as you would have to do in a "Live" recording session, you need to "get rid of"
that....it's for the sake of "realism".

Yeah, but with today's tech, can't they do for modeled plugs what we all wished analog could do (or wished was possible)?  Why add (gates, etc.) when we could have it the way 'it should have been'?  They do it for softsynths.

Ha...why do that?  They want you to work as hard as they had to
to get "That sound"....they probably want you to work HARDER then they
had to....

I've always found it hilarious that we spend thousands of dollars to get pristine, "studio quality" sound just to buy a plugin for hundreds of dollars to make your tracks sound noisy again. Alright! I admit it! I do it, too!

I don't know - just like painters once ceased to try to create the most realistic looking representation and started taking pleasure in exploring the paint and the canvas, I figure that a recording is a recording. A bit of noise can add life and depth. In small, subtle doses, it helps provide a frame of reference.

But that's me - I like me some noise. It's part of life, even before birth. I'd probably be very disoriented if I sat down to play guitar and suddenly heard nothing but the sound of the instrument, in its absolute purity - no room, no background noise, nothing else. I'm sure it would sound terrifyingly unreal.
