Here's a chart (interactive) of a bunch of famous singers

interesting stuff. Some of these folks have amazing ranges..... the most surprising to me was who was at the top.....

No Brad Delp? I'm pretty sure he got from F#2 to G5. That would put him in the top 3.

I assume they came up with those values by analyzing each person's recorded material. That could be inaccurate, though, for two reasons. 1. A singer might reasonably stay within their comfort zone in order to be able to perform recorded songs live. 2. In recordings you can cheat.

I believe this was picked based on their recorded music. Stuff that was done in the studio.

I think yeah, in a live situation, with the adrenalin going and the crowd hopping..... higher notes could be reached.....

Or... as Dave said, they could stay in that comfort zone to ensure a solid performance and not risk blowing a note or one's vocal cords.

Furthermore...... where is our very own Tony P? Twisted six?  That guy has a pretty wide range too.......

Have to take this with a grain of salt. I'm sure some are accurate and some are based on recorded notes I'm not sure would be counted as "singing range" . James Brown could shriek at fairly high pitches but at that point it is debatable whether he is singing :)

i think what's interesting, is not the 'large range' folks, but the folks with the most limited ranges, that get the most bang for the buck.

and yea, where's delp?

obviously, this is just a random selection, there are many many excellent choices left off the list.

it may not be 100% accurate or include everyone it should (Jon Anderson, is one I would like to have seen)

but it's still a relative comparison and is still pretty cool.  I'd like to see a lot more names on there, tho.
