I had dvd's of the sound libs go bad on me (2 sets) due to the writer, wouldn't see em on another machine.. so yer "stuff" does happen. I'd be highly suprised reg'd customers would abuse such a scheme.. yep bandwith is not free.. but then many other companies manage to give free downloads WITHOUT any time limit.. cakewalk included and they aren't small files.
 
I can't trust IK *NOT* to do discounting soon after release, so I would rather keep my money for a few months.. you'll find christmas seems a good time to buy pro audio stuff ;-)
 

Bandwidth as an excuse? "I'm sorry but you'll have to pay a fee to download the software you already own." I never understood that.  How many times do people actually download them? Or have to because they had some puter disaster? Seems cheap chiseling to me. When I can though, I'll end up buying it.

sound reactivation will be extended to 1 year with only a single reactivation credit beyond that year to reactivate ALL sound sets in your account.  Just in case that was missed when posted elsewhere.  More news will come on that as soon as all of it is rolled out, but thought you'd like to know.

You get a limited amount of time to download your library when you purchase (30 days, I think).
 
After that, you need to pay a "reactivation fee" to get the download links to work again.   If you back up properly, then you should never have to pay this fee.

Thank you.   I did not know the terminology.  I have the discs from when I purchased Total Studio and other IKM years ago.  I did go ahead and ordered today ST3 boxed version form Sweetwater (free shipping).  I know it will not be released until August in box for, but that is fine as my internet connection is too slow to download 33gigs.

We're changing it to a year.  That's at least good news and I don't feel it is chiseling, it is a move in the right direction.  There was no need to insult us for explaining the upcoming change.

It is a step in right direction, however I don't know of any other company that charges to download ever. Of the stuff I own, esoundz, native instruments, steinberg, toontrack, fxpansion, addictive drums, various tutorial companies don't charge anything. Those that do have limited download periods all have always given me another download if I needed one for some reason without cost.

OK fine I'll admit the fart part did make me laugh :)  But no fair, since fart jokes nearly never miss the mark.

Oddly enough, it's ik's handling of constant, vicious attacks here that makes me lean towards purchasing. Ik has made some mistakes but most companies would not deal with the lynch mob mentality year after year.

Dubdisciple - Vicious attacks? IK deserved everything they got. They did themselves no favors by stirring the pot with snarky comments and lying about release dates.
