Democracy in the UK is a sham.
Why are our so-called 'Royal' family exempt from suffrage?
Why does our House of Lords perpetuate the feudal idea of 'hereditary' peers?
Why is the anachronism of Church of England bishops sitting in the Upper House allowed to persist?
I'm open to some form of modifying institution to overlook the business of the House of Commons (maybe including 'life' peers as is the case currently), but in 21st century Britain, I believe the concept of eligibility to the corridors of power based upon one's birth or religion is an insult.
And yes, I know that as a constitutional monarchy, the House of Windsor wields no 'real' power, but as Russia's justified complaints over the recent comments by Charles prove, they are seen by others to be in a position of such.
Rant over.
