Where's Larry gone to?

He said he was done with this forum in the IK GOBO thread and that was it. Seems a bit strange.

Hmmm...
Boy you step away for a few days and you miss everything.
.........................................................................
Edit: Ok, I just read through that entire IK BOGO thread.

I'm glad I missed it now and l choose stay out of it. Seems enough's been said anyway.

Probably updating his profile pic. The other one was creeping out a few members.

I really don't know what all the fuss was about. I just objected to all the ganging up on the IK guy and gave my $0.02. Doesn't seem like reason enough to leave a forum you've contributed a lot to.

I didn't get involved in this thread mainly because if any company makes an offer that doesn't interest me, I just ignore it - but with regard to IK there are some lingering problems that do not endear them to their customers - I assume we are all aware of the SampleTank shambles; well this IS a problem for people who paid full price back in the day and now if they are like me, it will not work properly on the latest systems, or the tiny almost unreadable GUI is a hindrance. Personally I can only still use it as I have it set up on a dedicated old 32bit machine which I then link to my main DAW. I am lucky I can do this, many cannot.
And I read the comment that their failure to update this in a sensible timescale is hurting them, which it may be - but the more relevant point may be that they have definitely shifted focus onto the "i" market.
Whatever, their customer service is not great - and by customer service I mean looking after people who have spent a not inconsiderable sum with them over the years.
And whatever you say, there is NO place in any customer service based organisation for people who stoop to being sarcastic to their paying customer base; NEVER an excuse at any time, no matter what the provocation.
So as always, there are two sides to every story as the saying goes - perhaps you gave IK a little too much credit and perhaps Larry is a bit over zealous re trying to get IK to do the right thing.
Either way, I do think we on this forum should not get into arguments over external suppliers, especially when they could be seen as culpable for all this bad feeling.
How about time to bury the hatchet and kiss and be friends one and all!!

Well said Nigel.

When I originally posted this thread, I didn't know/realize that Larry had actually (permanently or semi-permanently) left the Cake forums.......I thought he was just gone for the day. It seems to be more serious.
I also agree that we shouldn't be fighting over 3rd party suppliers as they will only do what's in their best interest.......we at Cake however, have a more personal and more in common friendship that is much, much more valuable. It's perfectly fine in agreeing to disagree, but we shouldn't take it further than that.

I hope Larry does come back, he's a good guy.

Whatever the problems with SampleTank, I just didn't think it justified the kind of attack language being used the IK guy. FFIW, I thought his initial response in the thread was perfectly acceptable and only got a little snarky after he was attacked and insulted. Far from being sarcastic to their "customer base," he was simply giving as good as he got to a couple of people on a forum who attacked him personally. I think this idea that company representatives should sit still and "take it" as people savage them is totally bogus. It's one thing to disagree with someone online but this kind of attack was less than civil, and I said so. I didn't single anyone out by name and didn't mean to fall out with anyone or drive anyone away. That's their choice. Personally I think it's a shame if Larry feels like he's not welcome in this forum simply after that, since the guy obviously contributes a lot in terms of sales info etc.

It's cool to have a passionate debate as it helps people's decision making when buying/dealing with a company or product.

However, we should always remember what the Software forum is all about:

Spending money we don't have on things we don't really need.
