This was posted on Facebook, Vangelis rocking some pretty amazing kit and showing off his orchestral chops with his feet flitting about various controller pedals. Pretty amazing stuff.

You sure he wasn't doing a Milli Vangelis?

My favorite parts were the cryptic vin diagrams (i.e. patch changes and key assignments) and the worlds largest expression pedal collection. But, like Big Daddy says in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof", "I smell mendacity!"

I don't think his code/sketched symbols are a scam at all. I've always been amazed and flabbergasted (too) by the way musicians who don't play by "the book/or notes", remember things, and more so by the language they use to describe what they want during a session. I recorded a series of things for a retired nurse who played for hospitalized patients, and it took me a long time to understand what she was talking about, yet the music sounded good/nice, etc.

I just found that video, today via Keyboard mag and want to know more about his keyboard rig!

Leon Russell played a solo show in Taos, NM in 1990 and with a dual tiered keyboard and 2 large racks of synth modules and LOTS of foot controllers, he did everything himself.....really LOUDLY, too LOL His first chord bounced me off the stage at sound check. LOL
Anyone know more about Vangelis' rig please fill me in...

Perhaps live he does utilize proprietary diagrams and hardware setups to achieve a desired sonic goal...but this was not that at all. This, whether performed at a sitting and live "of a piece"...which I sincerely doubt...was dissected and remixed for the video plain and simple. One (knowledgeable twits) opinion. Artifice at best. Charlatinism at worst. YMMV.

PS: as to how we musicians are able to replay accurately performances we have previously rendered is a little trick...

We call it memory.
