I bought our current house 4 years ago. Both kids were getting ready to leave the nest. I rented a 30 yard dumpster and the wife and I started going through 20 years of stuff. She had kept every ratty old stuffed toy and every scrap of paper they had ever slobbered or raked a crayon across from the day they were born. I highly recommend this method of weeding out the crap before the move.

I'm in the process of doing that at my business.  We've got all manner of arcana and junk...like one whole wall filled with old client projects on DAT tape, computers and printers dating back to the mid nineties, etc...

We've also decided to have a musicians and home studio "yard sale" later this spring.  Probably two thirds of the stuff in the building is disposable.  Including me, of course.

Thanks guys!  I appreciate the comments.  Definitely plan to pare down!

I recall having 6 homes in my first 8 years out of college... then in this place for 28.  Time to go!

28 years is a lot of time acquiring stuff.

Butt....... I have more plugins than that, which is nice.

I nominate this as most TOS-friendly use of the words "Butt" and "plugins" in a post.

Congrats...

Must admit i have been idly browsing houses..simply to have more room for music & the studio.. I have commandeered pretty much the entire downstairs atm. The dining room is a rehearsal/jam room, the family room has 2 practice amps in it and nevermind the study/io

As i browse houses it seems that a finished, preferably walkout basement, is #1 on the list..lol

You know, as a kid and growing up, I had every potential to become a hoarder. Then I moved out of my parents house to the big city - but my room mate and I only had a small van to carry both of our belongings, so I had to leave most of my stuff behind. And in spite of my apprehensions, it became a freeing, life-defining moment.

Since then, I've moved by bus (Greyhound type), by car, and, more recently, by plane as I mentioned.

I've located a pic of that last move - that's all we took with us (including two cats in their carriers):

I too have turned into a hoarder of sorts..... nothing that would qualify me for a spot on one of the reality shows, but I have more useless things that I have saved through the years.  I still have an old DOS computer. Anybody remember the old 8088's?  Stored away in the attic. Lots of papers and other stuff......

My wife calls the office/studio my junk room.....

I have things in here I haven't used or touched in years. But.... I have found out that the minute I decide it's no longer needed, and throw it out, the likelihood that I will need it tomorrow increases exponentially, and sure enough....I will need it,  and then, since I just threw it away, I will have to go to the store and spend money to buy it again.  Truth!!

I'm hoping to move closer to where I work in the next 4 years.  Boy, do I dread the thought of going through everything we have hoarded through the years! We have been in this house for almost 20 years as well.

They say that moving can be as stressful as, "a death in the family," because you are examining, and packing up your past.

:-)

Good luck
