Sorry to hear that Kenny. My van was struggling to do 50 yesterday..I had 8 x 40kg bags of stone chips in the back and it was kinda low on the axle..

Until you get the car fixed, you'll be getting in really good shape no?

On the other hand, my car can do 55, but my foot is a bit on the heavy side.

The tires on my bicycle don't hold air. Get one of those smart cars but don't park it where they can turn it on its side or upside down. Could get a mo-ped.
oh, well, back to the cave.

 yeah , I do thankfully ….
i don't know if you know this or not , I'm in Vantuckey and In get  the same exact weather you get
lets just say that yesterday when I had to ride my bicycle and hour in the rain each way for an appointment ,
I might of been better off just wearing a set of swim shorts and breathing  through a snorkel

Hi James , I would be willing to guess that on a regular basis you certainly must put your van to the test

for me, this broken car thing could't of happened at a better time … I'm trying to see the glass half full

I just got done feeling the crunch of paying my auto insurance for the next 6  months  just a few weeks ago
( i got to pay  it up front to get a decent price )
I had my car looked at , since I thought it might of been the water pump on the way out ….
in a way I wish that was the issue ,,,,but no…..it's much worse …I saw for myself via the mechanic
over by the head , there is a gasket that has developed a leak over time …it has decided to scream uncle and let my coolant spurt out ….
for me to have this fixed , I have to have the whole area that houses the water pump , the pulleys and the timing chain pulled off just to change that gasket …..it is somewhat a major thing to pull all that stuff off ….
the mechanic suggested that we change the timing chain since the motor has to have all that stuff pulled just to replace the gasket ...
this is a tough break for me ….right now I'm sort of w out a useable car ….I can't drive it the way it is….

oh well…..that's life

I just put $2000+ repairs into my wife's car and just got mine out of the shop with $900 worth of repairs.  they're expensive!

but the saving grace is that we've had our cars paid off for the last 2 years!  no payments.  if you consider that it's a lot cheaper to pay the repair bills!

Sorry about your troubles, tho, Ken!  Good luck to you!

That's rough Kenny. I'm very lucky that my daughter's boyfriend is an expert engineer/mechanic and saves us a fortune on garage bills. Had a weird 'whoosh..whoosh..' noise coming from the van's engine a while back and my daughter recorded it on her phone to play back to him.

He phoned me later and said 'don't drive it, sounds like the timing belt about to snap'..he was right, it was split about halfway through...maybe 3-4 miles from causing a new engine scenario and much sadness. I've told her to hang on to him...

that is somewhat true ,
I feel lucky that I live in an are where there a lot of wildlife reserves …helps with a large dog that I have to exercise

I got to laugh ….
when I was younger I've gotten pulled over a few times for doing my best attempts to hit 55 over the speed limit on a motorcycle
it was a different time back then …in the 90's …when they hit the red lights and sirens I would always pull over
the few times they stopped me …they let me go ….
I remember this one time when a N Y State  highway patrol officer got me at  2 am …
I was only doing 80 on a winding 2 lane road that had a 50 mile an hour speed limit
when he walked up to me he just stood there shook his head and said "you got to be kidding me  "
I looked at him and said " I guess it was just too good to be true …."
after he looked at my paper work , he saw that I was only about 3 miles from where I lived ….
so then he asked me why was I going so fast …
I told him that it was snowing and I wanted to get home before the snow started sticking …..
he let me go and told me that the next time he sees me speeding he's gonna throw the book at me
those were the good old days
