Do people choose picks by color? I know I do. Just try to find a black pick on a darkened stage.

It's probably because I am not a guitarist, and I prefer light-gauge plectra, but my picks tend to go airborne. So I buy white picks exclusively so I can more easily pick them up from the floor.

I've got a smaller version of this so I can only drop so many before I need more.  Of course, there's always that wonderful trick of licking the pick and sticking it to your cheek when you play a finger part (this doesn't work anymore with my new textured picks however).

Who can afford that many picks?

The only reason I have more than one is I grabbed handfuls of them at the Dunlop booth at NAMM. Got a couple cool t-shirts from them, too. But I can't afford to go to NAMM anymore, that's why I pick 'em up off the floor. Even if I wasn't the one who dropped them.

My choice for years was the Fender Medium in White.

I would buy them by the gross..... for those in Rio Linda....that's 144 in the box.

My reasoning: the Fender medium picks had just the right amount of flex and stiffness for my playing style AND.... most importantly, the WHITE pick was easy to see if I dropped it on the dark stage.  Have you ever dropped and tried to find one of those tortoise colored ones? It's like trying to spot one of those Duck Commander boys in the Louisiana swamp on the first day of duck season.

Since those things last forever unless you happen to get them near a flame (at which point they will nearly explode) I still have several from over 30 years ago.... as long as I didn't do a string slide with them, where they have a notch in them, I still use them to this day......some of them are slightly more "round" than pick shaped from use. But I can't seem to part with them.   I finally did break out a brand new pick yesterday. It's brown, but then again, I'm not exactly on a dark stage these days so it's all good.

Hi,

Weird. I have never been able to use a pick while playing bass. I always felt that the "feel" was more important and I have never been able to do it on the pick. The fingers are more sensitive to the "feel" than the pick. FOR ME, anyway!

Just curious..do picks wear out? If they do I'm not doing a very good job of wearing mine. I've had the same picks for a few years now. On acoustic I don't use picks though.

Those green .88 mm Dunlop Tortex I use definitely do. How much they do depends on your playing style I guess. The 2 mm I'm trying now made me realize (again) how much energy I usually put into my picking hand, how I dig into the strings - which is okay for certain things but not so much for others. With these, I can't do that - so a smoother attack AND the thickness of the pick lead me to believe that I probably won't be needing new picks all the time like I do when I use the greenies.

I wonder if Cakewalk came out with picks if they would be offered as a Baker's gross (169)?

I use the gray Dunlop .60s. They have never worn out so the only time I need another is when I lose one.
