I have a simple test project going with 5 tracks. 2 tracks of Amplitube, 1 track with Mark bass studio, 2 tracks EZD2, 1 track AD2. I usually record and playback at 128 samples, but at 256 I'm still getting dropouts. I'm having to freeze everything. It looks like I'm using 4.1 ram...I have 8. Any ideas on this? There are also two instances of ValhallaVintageverb and the bass has the CA-2A VST3. There are no other plugins in use.

It might be due to the number of Drum Samplers and the disk streaming...
just guessing...try removing one and seeing if the problem goes away...

Freezing EZD2 drops it from 4.1 to 3.7 ram usage.
Freezing AD2 drops it to 2.9
I wonder if I need more ram? I would think 8 is plenty for my little projects.

That's one thing about these...as the samples get bigger (and better) they eat RAM like candy...
A good SSD can help with the streaming also, having your samples stored on one, and your
DAW and Operating System on one makes streaming (and load times) fast...

I have 16 Gigs of RAM...

Do AD2 and EZD2 stream samples? The original AD and EZD do not, they read everything into RAM. There may be some more tweaking to be done in SONAR such as increasing ExtraPluginBufs.

Sorry...didn't mean to imply that even though that's what I said.
Should have elaborated...

By streaming I meant that they will get pushed to the swap file with
low RAM, and therefore must be read back in when it starts playing...
making for lots of Hard Drive activity...

My bad...

If the project is using 4GB of RAM it should not be swapping to virtual memory if the machine has 8GB. I doubt the project is using 4GB of RAM though, that sound like total system RAM use. As I said before, there may be some DAW treaking which could help.

I'm going by the performance module in Sonar. It does say system use.

I don't even use VR....I have it turned off...not necessary...

just trying to get him some ideas...something is definitely causing his project to
peak and drop out.

Did you watch the core meter to see if Core 1 is going in the red?

Yea, that is what I thought. This is not a RAM or disk problem. This either CPU or configuration issue. I am leaning toward configuration ATM unless the first core is peaking to high on you.
