I almost missed it, but my wife mentioned it. She had to get up early, but I was off today, so I stuck it out.
It was a perfect night, clear skies. It was cold at 3:00AM, but worth it.

Moon moving into earth's shadow about 2:15AM.

Almost in full shadow, about 2:40AM

3:00AM It looked like this, more or less for about an hour.
I lost power in the camera after this shot, so I just kicked back and enjoyed the view.
I woke up around 9 this morning. Man I love it when a day off is timed right.

Nice pix.  I was thinking about it when I nodded off.

I stayed up here in California and paid for it today at work!  It was worth it though.

I was up and remembered so I went out a few times with some binoculars and, yep, it looked just like it does in Bob's nice pics up there!

I was weird to go outside and have to search for the smudge though, you really get a sense of just how much light is reflected normally.

I watched it back in '07 and took pics of the whole thing very similar to the ones you have there. At the same time there was an aurora going on to the North, so I was swinging the camera back and forth pretty much all night long. My focus was slightly off which made the whole thing a little disappointing.

Maybe you just have ADD?

Hi guys, glad you like the pics.
For anybody that's into this sort of thing, this was the first of four consecutive total lunar eclipses. Each will be followed by a solar eclipse two weeks later. The Americas had a prime viewing spot for this one. I haven't seen stats on who will be able to see the other three.
Soens, an eclipse and the Aurora Borealis at the same time? How cool is that? I've only seen the Aurora once and it was spectacular on its own.
