I recently bought a V700C console get out before the sonar 2 touch launched so today I'm a little disappointed, I am home musician producer , and i start my studio in recent months , and thought it had acquired a hardware that would help me tremendously in my music production, but today I see the videos of SONAR X2 TOUCH and think, will sell my v700c console (usd 2100) before it loses more its value, and buy some touchscreen monitors that cost up to 700 USD  27 "on Newegg, MY CONSOLE V700 is still useful?, V 700 console is a dinosaur today?, i wonder ok i buy a touchscreen monitor for 400 or 700 usd, and keep my v700, but it is a good idea? or best sell and buy other musician hardware, " the truth until recently i started use v700c console and would appreciate their valuable experience to make a decision.

I don't know what to tell you classicfan. I have the set and I am using it on X1d Expanded. I'm a private artist, composer, rather than a producer, engineer, so my needs are different. The touch screen is a transition from a hardware work surface to a screen-virtual work surface. They are both "touch" response surfaces, so? I haven't used a touch screen surface except on my phone. You see where I'm going right? The difference between tactile hardware and touch screen input sensitivity. While you could consider touch screen input to be hardware, the rules are not so apparent as hardware. By rules I mean, the action produced by the motion of the controls in each method.
It's really just two different control surfaces that both acheive the same result. Which is better?...

I think if I already had the V700C console what I would be doing is moving towards Windows 8 running the flagship version of X2. To this I would work with two monitors. One normal one in front of me and a lower touch screen monitor at an angle facing up. I am sure there is a way to integrate the V700C console into the set-up somehow.

So you use all input devices. Touch screen, the V700C still for transport, navigation, fine tuning of tracks and buss faders etc during mixdown and QWERTY keyboard maximising keyboard short cuts and the mouse. It would be a very versatile and powerful set-up.

But in that situation you could also phase out the V700C and you would still have a great controller set-up.

Jeff, you gave me a good idea here. This is pretty much the set-up I have at the moment (X2a, VS-700, large screen in front, smaller screen to right), except the smaller screen is not a touch screen (yet).  I might give touch a try, it could work well as I mostly have those GUIs on the right screen that are not controllable from the VS-700 ....

I reckon you need all input devices; nothing beats the mouse in certain situations like editing or piano roll, wouldn't want to miss real faders, either. Having experimented with touch on my second DAW I wasn't so sure that I'd fully want to rely on touch only. I think it's a bit hyped and overrated, but that's only my humble personal feeling about it ...

Touchscreen interfaces are nice in many platforms, but there are some things I would still want a physical board for until touchscreens become more accurate. All things considered, touchscreens on the mass market are a new thing. Sure, they have used them for a long time in business atmospheres, but for casual users and things that require pinpoint accuracy, they haven't been on the market very long and thus there is very little selection. The ones on the market that are well designed are very expensive at this point and with the way they are going to be flooding the market soon, there is no point investing because the technology will get much better very fast and the price should drop after a while.

I have used a laptop with touchscreen in stead of keyboard. I would never change faders and hardware for a touchscreen solution the way it is today. The touchscreen is nothing like faders and buttons. It might be practical, but part of the 700 is to give you a "studio" feeling. That has got to be worth something. At least it is for me.
