I A-B'd them with my Beyerdynamic dt770's. They sound quite a bit different. The M50's are quite a bit louder maybe because the 770's are 80 ohms. At this point I feel like I can trust the M50's bottom more but I'm used to the dt770's. The 770's are more comfortable for sure, maybe the M50's will get more comfortable as they break in. I absolutely love having both. These are a steal at this price.
I have and old pair of M40's with wore out ear pads, I think I'll repair 'em. Can I get a tutorial Bit?
Thanks again Larry, I hope you get the credit that's due.
I'm a big fan of switching between two or more headphones that sound different from one another. The M50's have about a 4 dB boost in the low end that extends up partway into the mud range. That means if a mix sounds like it's lacking bass in those headphones, then I know it's really lacking bass. If my mix is muddy, it'll sound really muddy in those headphones - but not in my Sennheisers, which are very flat in the low end.
OTOH, if my mix is too bright the M50's might not reveal it because they're a little soft in the high end. The Sennheisers, however, will let me know RIGHT NOW if the mix is too bright. When the mix sounds good on both, then I listen on some Sennheiser in-ears that are annoyingly hyped at both ends of the spectrum.
If the mix passes
that test, then I know for sure that I've hit the sweet spot.
Yes, the M50's will get more comfortable over time, but they'll never match those velour pads.
