Bit man, I look forward to seeing any of your in-depth reviews on the Melda plugs.  They are certainly deep!

That Auto EQ function sounds a lot like Ozone's matching EQ feature.  Any real diff between the two?

(I don't own the AutoDynamicEQ plug, just the regular DynamicEQ.)

Cheers,
Eddie

Yes, Ozone's EQ-matching feature is an obvious comparison. The two are indeed nearly functionally equivalent, differing mainly in the mechanics of how you go about it and how the data is presented.

I especially like Ozone's ability to simply draw a reference over the equalizer as a visual guide. I can display a curve for, say, Dark Side of the Moon and see if I'm in the same ballpark with a similar tune. I like that you can have up to ten references available at all times for quick comparison.

MAutoDynamicEQ is easier to use when comparing tracks within a project, easier to tweak the computer-suggested filter curve, and easier to moderate the intensity of the effect. It's also lighter on the CPU and doesn't have Ozone's latency issues.

Honestly, if you've got MDynamicEQ and Ozone then MAutoDynamicEQ might be a bit redundant. But if you do spectrum matching often (e.g. dialog editing) then MAutoDynamicEQ would be a justifiable addition.

Trying to keep on budget so I thought I would ask - is this also similar to voxengo's curve eq which I have an older version of but have since not used it much.

I'm in the market for a new eq - I have Fabfilter's demo loaded and like it a lot. I also like voxengo's gliss eq and use it a lot (also an older version).

Should I go with the Melda MDynamicEQ or upgrade my voxengo plugins IYO?

I like CurveEQ and Pro-MB, but I get faster results than either of them with MDynamicEQ.

GlissEQ isn't really a dynamic equalizer in the same sense as the others, even though it's billed as such. Its best feature is the ability to overlay multiple tracks' spectra. It was once my go-to EQ, but nowadays rarely gets used, having been first superseded by Pro-Q, which in turn is now getting slowly superseded by MDynamicEQ.

I've been on the hunt for the ultimate dynamic equalizer for a long time and I think I've tried just about every one of them as well as a great many multi-band compressors. I can't say I've found the ultimate yet, but to date MDynamicEQ tops the list in terms of ease-of-use, flexibility, price and audio quality.

Thanks bit,

Just watched a video on mdynamiceq also getting ready to download my newly licensed version. Such a good price point right now. It looks like an outstanding eq.

More so than with most plugins, it seems I may need to take a night course to learn this one inside and out.

I'm just wrapping up a lengthy review of MDynamicEQ for the May edition of SoundBytes magazine. I wanted to go beyond what's in the manual, which necessitated diving very deep into the plugin, reading everything I could find, conversations with the developer and most of all, hours of experimentation.

I'll give you the short summary of my weeks of research: this plugin is deep. Deep, powerful and versatile.

I don't have enough hours with Pro-MB yet to declare either it or MDynamicEQ the winner, but I can say that just in terms of raw capabilities they are pretty evenly matched. It really comes down to your UI preferences. Pro-MB is a little more accessible. It's easy to figure out pretty quickly and that, of course, is FabFilter's forte: elegant, ergonomic UIs.

MDynamicEQ takes a little more effort, requires cracking the manual. But once you "get" the UI it's quite fast to get good results with.

The article by Bitflipper is out - getting ready to dive in. It's a 3-part series and I'm anxious to start reading. Thanks Bit!
