Sorry for the rant but:

In March of 2011 I bought Waves Gold V8. Everything installed fine and worked with Sonar X1. I wupped when V9 came out in March of 2012. No iLok, some additional plugs and 64 bit seemed like pretty good reason to wup. The V9 install and move from iLok to the Cloud license center didn’t go well and after several tries with the help of Waves support, I threw in the towel and went back to V8.
In December of 2013 I purchased Bass Rider and Vocal Rider but I have yet to get them working properly in Sonar X3. When I open them in the FX bin they crash Sonar.  I’ve tried them in Sonar X2 and X3.  I kicked them to the curb and now use Hornet Autogain  for those duties. I now have what seems like a combination of V8 and V9 plugins. I let my Gold V8 wup lapse in March of 2013, My Bass Rider and Vocal Rider wups are still up to date.
At this point I’m using Waves plugs less and less. I currently use V8 Super Tap Delay, H-Delay, Paz, Renaissance Reverb and Enigma without issue. The V series EQ sounds nice but I really don’t use it much anymore. Slate FG-X has replaced situations where I would use the L1.
This isn’t completely Waves fault as I could have been more diligent in seeking a solution but I grew tired of messing with it. I’m ready to bite the bullet and Get all my Waves products working as they should but I refuse to pay for wup or any more Waves products until I get this sorted out.
Whew I feel a little better now that I got that out. Now to do something about it...............

I went "Waveless" a while back... I still own the X-Mas Renn Bass Plugin, but it's not installed.
Consequently I haven't had any plugin problems since...

There is something "Fishy" with the Wave Shell thing...don't understand why they can't do
normal Plugins...but, whatever...especially with Sonar...no concern to me anymore...

And selling my Waves got me Komplete 9 and few other "needed" things...so,
to me, it was a win-win...

the sale priced plugs that show up in the link say the prices are good till the end of May ...
not that that changes anything for me ….
I'm not exactly the kind of catch a millionaire woman would proudly take home to meet daddy

Rocky: the problem is that Waves plugins run inside a shell, which must match the version of each plugin. No problem if you buy a large bundle and always update the whole shebang at each major revision. But if you bought individual plugs and no WUP, you're going to have issues.

The only solutions are to a) re-purchase all your old plugins. b) buy the WUP, or c) never buy any new ones. My existing Waves products will constitute my entire Waves experience going forward. I won't add any more, even if they're offered at "no brainer" prices.

Waves Gold and GTR were some of the first external plug ins I purchased many years ago - GTR NEVER worked and they wanted to keep charging ME WUP to fix their problems!!!
So I dumped GTR at a great financial loss and  continued just to use my old Gold Package until it started to act a bit strange as I moved to Windows 7, then 64 bit etc.
So I now hardly ever use them and am thinking on next clear out etc I might just get rid of them all and be done with it.
I could never recommend anyone purchasing from Waves - some people say they have become more customer focused, but I'd rather stick by the old adage that a Leopard never changes his spots................

I don't even use the freebies waves gavevout anymore. Great products when they work but I felt like it was a game of perpetual re-authorization.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I picked up Larry's Waves stuff and I love them (thanks again Larry! :). I have since added a ton more (and I am one of those that loves a vintage inspired gui so big fan of the Abbey Roads stuff on all levels).

I would probably add the Schepps or J37 if the prices are that crazy killer...
