A percussion instrument is a musical instrument that is sounded by being struck or scraped by a beater (including attached or enclosed beaters or rattles); struck, scraped or rubbed by hand; or struck against another similar instrument. The percussion family is believed to include the oldest musical instruments, following the human voice.

Percussion instruments may play not only rhythm, but also melody and harmony.

and also can have parts written out in treble and bass clefs just like any other instrument.

But have a nice day.

And whatever Rikki posted, probably does not bother me, and wound up is not what I need to be. It's a choice.

wasn't just me taking it seriously.  and I don't see any evidence that it was a joke even now.

I wasn't singling you out Beagle, I just wondered why anyone would take it literally. To me it read like it was meant to be joking, like a Jerry Seinfeld kind of "why does X...." type thing.

Why did anyone take his post seriously? It was just a joke, like the long running jokes about bass players etc. Honestly if someone attacked all guitar players in a tongue in cheek way I couldn't give a toss. Why would I?

Because all guitar players are divas?

I think I also read somewhere that we have an unhealthy interest in sheep.

I for one, do need drum VST's (my wife won't be happy with a real drummer in the house). I'm just not that talented enough to keep time consistently in a rythmic groove. Depending on how you use the VST's, they can be manipulated very nicely in getting some cool musical tones. .......besides, this is the best way to feed the need in have a GAS addiction for drum sounds.

Ya know this came up a little while back and though I touched on it in my own rather obscure way, perhaps something should be pointed out more explicitly:

If you make what might be considered an irreverent attempt at humor, it kind of by definition means someone might get upset by it. So don't be all surprised and/or upset if they do.

And when they do, I'd like to think the entire range of appropriate responses (at least for this venue) ranges from, "oops, sorry" to "you'll get over it".

I thought I was asking an obviously humurous question, maybe I didn't put in enough smileys winks or whatever. I asked in my mind jokingly what is the point of drums. I asked you to enlighten me, thought that made it Obvious.
I shoulden't have mentioned drums but drum vsti's because I certainly don't want to put down anyone. My question came about from the multitude of drum vsti's in sonar and their use in the songs on the songsforum. I didn't know this is a touchy subject and if I have insulted anyone, Jonbouy, I hereby offer my apologies. Anyway just got back from my psychiatrist with a fresh batch of anti-depressives and anti psychotics, should keep me from killing myself right now.

I sincerly hope your all having a nice life.

Rik

then I apologize for jumping on you seriously.  I thought you were being serious.

actually I use VST drums, too, as do a lot of people, but that's because drummers are so "in demand" that they're difficult to find.

this is in the real world, not just here in the forum.  if you're a drummer, you've got your choice of gigs, really.  most drummers I know do more than one band.

I had a feeling he'd disappeared up his own jacksie somehow.  Looks like he just confirmed it.

I don't think there was a reply, certainly from me, that was any less tongue in cheek than his OP was.

Yeah, I get it, I'll take a pop at y'all then tell y'all you are being hostile for coming back at me.  What was the best outcome likely to have been.  Unbelievable.

He even took his avatar down, shame as he must have taken ages perfecting that pose, he looked right fine and dandy in it...
